This spring, my colleagues and I passed a responsible budget that funds education, food security, health care, violence prevention programs and other essential resources, and we advanced a responsible revenue package that bolsters new revenue sources without placing taxes on everyday people. Today, they were both signed into law. I was proud to join Governor JB Pritzker and some of my colleagues in the General Assembly for the signing of the Fiscal Year 2027 spending plan in Chicago this afternoon. At a time when so many Illinoisans are forced to live in fear and instability, we are making it clear we value affordability, safety and dignity for our residents – especially for working and immigrant families.
This year required practical decisions from lawmakers, but we came together to uplift those most in need and make the wealthiest in our state pay their fair share. As the federal government continues to wreak havoc in the lives of working, low-income and immigrant families, I’m dedicated to putting in the hard work that continues to make Illinois the best place to live, work and raise a family – and the signing of this spending plan proves it.
