Overflow Action Alert

Heavy rain is expected in the Chicago area today. Reduce your use of water during and after the storm to help prevent flooding and protect water quality:

โ€ข Delay showers and baths
โ€ข Flush less frequently
โ€ข Wait to run the dishwasher or washing machine

Flooding and sewer backups can happen for a variety of reasons. To help prevent flooding inside or around your home, there are actions you and your family can take before and during rainfall.

It was a busy and rewarding day for Team Kirkwood out in the community! ๐ŸŒŸ Connecting with residents at the Southwest Regional Center Resource & Shred Event gave us the opportunity to share valuable resources while supporting safe document disposal and recycling efforts. โ™ป๏ธ๐Ÿ“„

At the Palos Heights Farmers Market, we also hosted a resource table, where we met with community members, answered questions, and enjoyed supporting local vendors and small businesses. ๐Ÿฅ•๐ŸŒฝ๐Ÿ…

๐ŸŒˆ Pride Month is officially underway at the MWRD! We proudly raised the Pride flag at our Main Office Building and Water Reclamation Plants as a symbol of inclusion, visibility, and support for the LGBTQ+ community.

Following the flag-raising ceremonies, we were honored to hear inspiring remarks from Mary DeBacker, former FEMA Field Operations Chief; Chicago Alderwoman Maria Hadden; and Cook County Commissioner Maggie Trevor. Their powerful stories highlighted the importance of representation, resilience, and ensuring that every voice has a seat at the table.

As we celebrate Pride Month, we recognize that the ultimate goal is a future where opportunity, acceptance, and representation are so commonplace that there are no more โ€œfirstsโ€ to celebrate.

Hereโ€™s to building stronger, more inclusive communities together. Happy Pride Month! ๐ŸŒˆโœจ
