A vacant lot doesn’t become a home on its own. It takes developers, contractors, and tradespeople putting in the work to build a home or building. It also takes the municipalities, nonprofit organizations, and business owners who partner with us to make that work possible in the first place.

It's official — the Austin HOPE Center is ready to welcome the community! 🎉

We were honored to join Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, Stone Community Development Corporation, Wintrust Bank Chicago, Thresholds, elected officials, and the community for the ribbon cutting. What was once two vacant lots is now a 25,000 square foot facility bringing pediatric and adolescent care, behavioral healthcare, financial services, and more to Austin families.

What was once a vacant lot in Morgan Park for around seven years is now a brand-new 2-flat with a garden unit. 🏡

Developer Sanju Sharma brought more than 15 years of renovation and new construction experience to this build, creating a modern, eco-friendly home with two 3-bed/2-bath units and added green space throughout. It's his first project with the Cook County Land Bank Authority, and he already has two more lots lined up in Morgan Park.

Neighbors told him they were happy to finally see the lot developed — and he's not the only one building in the area. Three new homes are going up a block over, signaling real momentum for the neighborhood.

His vision: build something modern, improve the block, and create housing he'd feel good putting his own family in.

From food truck to brick-and-mortar 🔥 Jerk Sou'lay brings Jamaican-Soul food to Ashburn, and it all started with a vacant, condemned building at 8216 S. Kedzie.

In 2021, owner Judith Davis acquired the property through CCLBA and got to work renovating it. In 2024, Jerk Sou'lay opened its doors — turning years of visible neglect into a place of community and pride.

Jerk Sou'lay's roots go back to Judith's food truck and catering business, inspired by her love of Jamaican cuisine and in tribute to her late father, a soul-food cook.

What does it take to purchase property from the Land Bank — and tap into the City of Chicago's ChiBlockBuilder Program? We broke it down at our latest Working with the Land Bank seminar at Kennedy-King College.

CCLBA Executive Director Jessica Caffrey and DPD Commissioner Ciere Boatright led the conversation, joined by Alderman Stephanie D. Coleman - 16th Ward, Commissioner Michael Scott, Jr., and lenders Community Investment Corporation, PNC Bank, Chicago Community Loan Fund, CIBC, C3 Fund, and the Cook County Department of Economic Development.

From a neighborhood liability to community value, thanks to developers from ANM Mechanical HVAC and Plumbing.

Through the Chicago Department of Housing's Rebuild 2.0 program, they rehabilitated these two Englewood buildings into owner-occupied homes.

To get this project off the ground, the Cook County Land Bank Authority acquired these formerly vacant, tax-delinquent properties and cleared the titles, giving the developer a clean slate to build from. Partnership carried the work forward — Chicago Community Loan Fund brought the capital, while IHDA and the City closed the affordability gap for the families who now call this home.

Congratulations to the new homeowners, and thank you to Mayor Brandon Johnson, Alderman Stephanie Coleman, DOH Commissioner Lissette Castaneda, and IHDA Executive Director Kristin Faust for making this possible.

Pampered Princess Spa is a Broadview spa built just for kids — offering manicures, pedicures, facials, and makeup treatments in a space designed to make every little girl feel like royalty. 👑

Owner Laticia Brown opened the business in 2015 and dreamed of one day owning her own space. Through CCLBA, she acquired a vacant commercial property in Broadview and transformed it into a dedicated home for the Spa — a place for birthday parties, spa days with friends, and DIY lotions and lip glosses.

What was once vacant and generating nothing for the community is now a thriving gathering spot for Broadview families.

Born and raised in Chicago, Megan has been a licensed real estate broker for the past three years and brings almost a decade of experience in rehabilitation, construction, and property oversight.

From assigning and overseeing multiple construction projects to managing contractors and seeing full projects through to completion, Megan's diverse background makes her a great fit for our Asset Management team.

Twisted Eggroll is coming soon to Chatham!

This Black-woman-owned business, known for its sweet and savory take on the classic egg roll (think buffalo chicken, cheesesteak, and apple cheesecake flavors), is opening a takeout-only location on the 75th Street corridor in 2026. They are currently taking catering orders.

Owner Nikkita Randle purchased the long-vacant, 6,500-square-foot building through CCLBA, then received funding from Greenwood Archer Capital, a $400,000 state grant, and a $100,000 grant from the Chicago Community Trust to bring her vision to life.

Started in 2015 from a love of cooking and a hope to touch lives, Twisted Eggroll has grown from a packaged product and catering business into a brick-and-mortar shop bringing new energy to Chatham.
