This fight is not over - the community has demanded change, and it is long overdue.

Thank you to the 36th Ward residents who came to the Public Safety Committee to share their experiences. These stories are the realities that are being ignored.

Today, we could have taken a step forward in finally clearing areas like Division and Lawndale - who have been living next to an open-air drug market for decades. Instead, it was stalled by the fifth floor. I urge Chicago Mayor's Office to listen to these comments.

Enough is enough.

Today, my ordinance trying to block drug dealers from selling drugs across the street from elementary schools and park districts was blocked from passage.

The community has been abundantly clear, they want to see change! They have been living under these conditions for decades.

I am disappointed that the Chicago Mayor's Office orchestrated this block with his allies, choosing to ignore the reality and instead picking their special agenda over pragmatic policy.

This is not over, I have already requested the Public Safety Chairman to put this on the agenda for the next meeting. Change has to be made and if state legislators or the mayor’s office won’t do it - then it’s up to local officials to take action.

The Department of Housing announced the launch of the HomeGrown Purchase Assistance Program. This initiative is designed to help low- and moderate-income Chicagoans achieve homeownership by providing direct financial support.

Beyond honored this past weekend to join United Leagues of Humboldt Park and The Old Timers for the launch of their 2026 season! Growing up, I played on the exact same field, just kitty-corner to diamond three, and had some of the best memories with friends, family, and the community. Returning now to celebrate baseball, Puerto Rican history, and the sport of our community meant a lot.

Check out The Old Timers League every Saturday in Humboldt Park on Diamond three!

Good games, good people, and good times.

The 36th Ward is hosting a Free Drive-Thru Car Seat Checkup Event to help parents and caregivers ensure their children are riding safely. Certified technicians will be on-site to inspect your car seats, check for recalls, and provide hands-on instructions for correct installation.
