The K-Town Historic District was an idea brought to reality by Charles Leeks, Director of Neighborhood Housing Services’ (NHS) North Lawndale office. Under its mandate to build strong communities through home ownership, NHS turned its attention to our small area. Hoping to spark new interest and investment in North Lawndale, NHS sponsored an in-depth study of the history and buildings of our uniqu

e area. On September 9, 2010, the K-Town Historic District was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. In an effort to maximize the potential benefits of this important designation, local block clubs and concerned neighbors within the district came together to pursue the goal of helping build a better North Lawndale by leveraging the historic district’s recognition. Using the Jan Hus Memorial building, currently Greater St. Paul A.M.E. Church, as a formal meeting place, the K-Town Historic District Committee was formed.
