Today we celebrate Sweden´s national day! 💛💙🇸🇪

June 6 marks two important milestones in Swedish history: the election of King Gustav Vasa in 1523 and the adoption of a new constitution in 1809.

In Sweden, it’s a public holiday celebrated with a royal ceremony at Skansen, flag raisings across the country, and plenty of family-friendly activities. And of course, no celebration is complete without a classic cake topped with cream and strawberries😚🍰.

What do you know about the Vasa Order? "Swedish in origin, the Vasa Order welcomes men and women over 14 years of age of Scandinavian roots, (Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish or Icelandic,) and their spouses who would like to rediscover the traditions of their forefathers; and those who are not of Nordic ancestry but are committed to the promotion and advancement of Swedish and Nordic heritage and culture." In July the Vasa Order of America will host the Grand Lodge Convention in Naperville just outside of Chicago.

The Vasa Order of America invites you to attend a fun filled day of Scandinavian and Nordic hands on experiences, culminating in a optional casual evening meal of Nordic and American foods and The Swedes – a Swedish ABBA tribute band. Begin the day with a continental breakfast and welcome, choose from several interactive sessions that interest you throughout the day, with lunch and afternoon Fika included, as well as the opportunity to meet and mingle with others interested in Nordic and Scandinavian culture. Kids attend for free and will take part in a variety of fun activities as well. All Vasa members are r encouraged to attend, and all children under 14 are free! Stay for an evening meal of both Nordic and American culinary delights and live band The Swedes. Stay over and enjoy morning frukost before departing.

It is always a great day when you get to meet Chicago's school children and talk about Sweden. Probably not the best idea to make blue and yellow pompoms, but the kiddos got an A+ in patience. I am very thankful to Kristoffer Nordfeldt who kept them entertained in goal. 💛⚽️⚽️💙
