EverThrive Illinois urges the General Assembly to reverse the proposed cuts to the Birth Equity Initiative and Infant Mortality funding in the FY27 budget. The health of Black and Brown women and people of reproductive age are already under attack from federal cuts to Medicaid and SNAP.

Emily Cole is EverThrive’s new Policy & Advocacy Director! Before joining EverThrive Illinois, she was an Organizer with Community Organizing and Family Issues for six years, where she supported Black and Brown parent leaders across Illinois organizing for increased access to health coverage for low-income families, peer-to-peer mental health support, and economic and social supports for families with young children. Emily is excited to bring her organizing energy and policy experience to EverThrive IL to pursue universal, high-quality, holistic healthcare for and with Black and Brown communities.

She has her Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan and Bachelor of Social Work from Calvin University and was a 2024 Chicago United for Equity Fellow. In her free time, you can find her cooking with her loved ones, reading sci-fi and radical non-fiction, and running and biking along the lakefront.
