Statement of Solidarity with Our Immigrant Community
At Bickerdike Redevelopment Corporation, we stand with our immigrant neighbors, families, and community members because our shared humanity demands it. The right to safety, dignity, and belonging is not limited by borders or determined by circumstance. As a community-based housing organization, we know that behind every home is a story of resilience, sacrifice, and the desire for stability and hope. Immigrant families have always been part of those stories, shaping our neighborhoods and enriching the collective spirit that defines who we are.
In times when immigrants face fear, hostility, or displacement, we reaffirm what has always guided our work: compassion and justice. Housing is not just a structure; it is the foundation for human dignity. We reject all systems that marginalize or devalue people because of their immigration status, language, or origin. Our commitment is to create spaces where everyone feels safe to call home, raise their families, and participate fully in the life of their community.
Our belief is simple and unwavering: housing is a human right, and humanity knows no borders. We will continue to use our voice, our partnerships, and our work to advocate for policies that protect immigrant families, expand access to affordable housing, and strengthen communities built on care and mutual respect. In standing with immigrants, we honor the values that have guided Bickerdike for nearly six decades. When one of us is denied dignity, we all lose a piece of our shared humanity, and when we stand together, we build something stronger, lasting, and just.
