Happy Earth Day!!

We had a wonderful time at the Annual Humboldt Park Earth Day Celebration. The Garden Committee gave away succulents and various other plants that had been grown in a local greenhouse to attendees. We also helped clean up the park with the help of hundreds of other volunteers. Finally, we meet various elected representatives who have been champions for both the environment and affordable housing!!

Tuvimos un excel excelente tiempo en La Celebración Anual de Humboldt Park. El "Committee Garden" regaló plantas de suculentos y otra hierbas a los participants. Adémas, limpiamos el parque con nuestros voluntarios. Finalmente, conocimos a miembros del gobierno que están apoyando el medio ambiente y viviendas a nivel de bajo costo.

We’re excited to share that this morning Mayor Johnson and the City of Chicago Department of Housing, led by Commissioner Castañeda, announced that Bickerdike’s Metropolitan L Apartments was one of 15 applicants selected to receive Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) funding. We’re proud to move this Logan Square transit-oriented development forward and congratulate the other recipients!

With affordable housing disappearing and demand far exceeding supply in the 26th Ward, the proposed 100% affordable housing project at 3251 W. Division will help stabilize families without increasing nearby property taxes. We urge the alderperson, Zoning Committee, and City Council to vote yes on the zoning change and support this 100% affordable housing development.

At Bickerdike Redevelopment Corporation, we stand with our immigrant neighbors, families, and community members because our shared humanity demands it. The right to safety, dignity, and belonging is not limited by borders or determined by circumstance. As a community-based housing organization, we know that behind every home is a story of resilience, sacrifice, and the desire for stability and hope. Immigrant families have always been part of those stories, shaping our neighborhoods and enriching the collective spirit that defines who we are.

In times when immigrants face fear, hostility, or displacement, we reaffirm what has always guided our work: compassion and justice. Housing is not just a structure; it is the foundation for human dignity. We reject all systems that marginalize or devalue people because of their immigration status, language, or origin. Our commitment is to create spaces where everyone feels safe to call home, raise their families, and participate fully in the life of their community.

Our belief is simple and unwavering: housing is a human right, and humanity knows no borders. We will continue to use our voice, our partnerships, and our work to advocate for policies that protect immigrant families, expand access to affordable housing, and strengthen communities built on care and mutual respect. In standing with immigrants, we honor the values that have guided Bickerdike for nearly six decades. Declaración de Solidaridad con Nuestra Comunidad Inmigrante

En Bickerdike Redevelopment Corporation, estamos con nuestros vecinos, familias y miembros de la comunidad inmigrante porque nuestra humanidad compartida así lo exige. El derecho a la seguridad, la dignidad y el sentido de pertenencia no está limitado por fronteras ni determinado por las circunstancias. Como una organización comunitaria dedicada a la vivienda, sabemos que detrás de cada hogar hay una historia de resiliencia, sacrificio y deseo de estabilidad y esperanza. Las familias inmigrantes siempre han sido parte de esas historias, dando forma a nuestros vecindarios y enriqueciendo el espíritu colectivo que define quiénes somos.

En tiempos en que los inmigrantes enfrentan miedo, hostilidad o desplazamiento, reafirmamos lo que siempre ha guiado nuestro trabajo: la compasión y la justicia. La vivienda no es solo una estructura; es la base de la dignidad humana. Rechazamos todos los sistemas que marginan o desvalorizan a las personas por su estatus migratorio, idioma u origen. We’d like to share a few heartfelt words from one of our colleagues in honor of World Mental Health Day.

We know that with everything happening in the world, in our city, and in our own lives, things can sometimes feel overwhelming. In those moments, remember to take care of yourself. Your well-being and mental health matter. YOU matter.

If you need a break, take one. Breathe. Talk to someone you trust—a friend, a family member, or a counselor. Give yourself permission to rest, to care for yourself, and to show yourself kindness. Some days will be harder than others, but don’t lose hope. As a community, we move forward—together.

You’ve got this. We’re with you.

Queremos compartir unas palabras llenas de cariño de una de nuestras compañeras en honor al Día Mundial de la Salud Mental.

Sabemos que en estos tiempos, con tanto ocurriendo en el mundo, en nuestra ciudad y en nuestras propias vidas, a veces todo puede sentirse abrumador. En esos momentos, recuerda cuidar de TI. Tu bienestar y tu salud mental importan. TÚ importas.

Si necesitas un respiro, haz una pausa. Respira. Habla con alguien en quien confíes: un amigo, un familiar o un consejero. Date permiso para descansar, para cuidarte y mostrarte cariño. Algunos días serán más difíciles que otros, pero no pierdas la esperanza. Como comunidad, seguimos adelante.
