What would you do with $900M in public funds? Something tells me building new prisons isn’t the first thing to come to mind. Bill Ayers poses solid alternatives in this Sun-Times Op-Ed.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker wants to tear down the two prisons and spend $900 million on a new facility. Instead, Illinois should lead the country on working vigorously to end mass incarceration.

The CTU is spot on in its analysis of the new developments at NTA. We're seeing communities pitted against each other for scarce resources, high quality education. History tells us that black families will receive the short end of the stick. We have to push our local elected officials to push for a greater resources in neighboring schools like Phillips. We need new arrivals in the South Loop and the pillars of Chinatown to push for the same. https://www.ctunet.com/media/press-releases/community-near-south-side-parents-students-teachers-school-closure

Home ownership is a lifelong dream for many.  Understandably so.  Owning a home offers freedom from rising rents, the security of a fixed address and the right to do as you wish on your property.

Happy Mother's Day to all the phenomenal women who parent, whether its children of your own or others that you accept as your own. May you be recognized for your tireless love, selflessness and resolve. You're on Local School Councils fighting for quality education in the face of shrinking budgets. You're in the workplace breaking barriers in the face of Fox-level sexism. You're in courtrooms and classrooms demanding due process from state actors and private citizens acting under the color of law. You're the true believers in houses of worship, some of which may withhold from you offices of leadership. In a world that may not always recognize you in full, your indomitable spirit, resilience, care and insight continue to be the cornerstone of humanity. One day is but a scintilla of what you deserve.

Good to know Rahm Emanuel has the money to keep CPS open through the end of the full school year.
