เมื่อวันที่ 13 มิถุนายน 2569 เทศกาลไทยชิคาโก 2026 ได้เปิดงานอย่างเป็นทางการ ท่ามกลางผู้เข้าร่วมงานหลายพันคนที่มาร่วมเฉลิมฉลองวัฒนธรรม ความเป็นชุมชน และมิตรภาพระหว่างประเทศไทยและสหรัฐอเมริกา โดยปีนี้มีความสำคัญเป็นพิเศษ เนื่องจากตรงกับวาระครบรอบ 250 ปี แห่งการประกาศอิสรภาพของสหรัฐอเมริกา ซึ่งประเทศไทยมีความภาคภูมิใจที่ได้ร่วมเฉลิมฉลองในวาระสำคัญนี้
นางสาวบาจรีย์ พึ่งพักตร์ กงสุลใหญ่ ณ นครชิคาโก กล่าวในโอกาสเปิดงานว่า เทศกาลไทยในปีนี้สะท้อนถึงความสัมพันธ์ระดับประชาชนสู่ประชาชน โดยการแลกเปลี่ยนทางวัฒนธรรมผ่านอาหาร ดนตรี ศิลปะ และประสบการณ์ร่วมกัน ยังคงเป็นพื้นฐานสำคัญของมิตรภาพไทย-สหรัฐฯ พร้อมขอบคุณชุมชนไทยในชิคาโก พันธมิตรทางธุรกิจในท้องถิ่น และผู้เข้าร่วมงานทุกท่าน ที่เป็นส่วนสำคัญในการสร้างความสัมพันธ์อันอบอุ่นและยั่งยืนระหว่างสองประเทศ
หนึ่งในจุดเด่นของงานปีนี้ คือนิทรรศการ "ชุดไทย" ซึ่งนำเสนอผ้าไทย งานหัตถศิลป์ และมรดกทางแฟชั่นไทยที่สืบทอดมาอย่างต่อเนื่อง นอกจากนี้ ผู้เข้าชมยังได้เพลิดเพลินกับการแสดงนาฏศิลป์ ดนตรี ศิลปะ และอาหารไทยหลากหลายเมนู
เทศกาลไทยชิคาโกยังคงเป็นเวทีสำคัญในการส่งเสริมการแลกเปลี่ยนทางวัฒนธรรม เปิดโอกาสให้ชาวชิคาโกและผู้มาเยือนได้สัมผัสความเป็นไทย และจิตวิญญาณแห่งมิตรภาพที่เชื่อมโยงประชาชนไทยและอเมริกัน
ก่อนเริ่มพิธีเปิดงาน ผู้เข้าร่วมงานทุกท่านได้ร่วมยืนสงบนิ่ง เพื่อถวายความอาลัยสมเด็จพระเจ้าลูกเธอ เจ้าฟ้าพัชรกิติยาภา นเรนทิราเทพยวดี กรมหลวงราชสาริณีสิริพัชร มหาวัชรราชธิดา ซึ่งสิ้นพระชนม์เมื่อวันที่ 11 มิถุนายน 2569 ทั้งนี้กงสุลใหญ่ ฯ ได้กล่าวเทิดพระเกียรติและน้อมรำลึกถึงพระกรณียกิจด้านการต่างประเทศ ตลอดจนพระเกียรติคุณในการส่งเสริมหลักนิติธรรมและสิทธิสตรี
Thai Festival 2026 Opens in Chicago
On 13 June 2026, the Thai Festival Chicago 2026 officially opened, bringing together thousands of visitors for a celebration of Thai culture, community, and international friendship. This year’s festival holds special significance as it coincides with the 250th anniversary of the United States’ Declaration of Independence, a milestone Thailand proudly joins the American people in commemorating.
In opening remarks, Consul-General Bacharee Puengpak highlighted the festival’s focus on people-to-people connections, emphasizing that cultural exchange—through food, music, art, and shared experiences—remains the foundation of Thai–U.S. friendship. Chicago’s Thai community, local partners, and festivalgoers were recognized as essential contributors to the warm and enduring ties between the two countries.
A major highlight of this year’s program is the exhibition on Chud Thai or Thai traditional costume, showcasing textiles, craftsmanship, and the living heritage of Thai fashion. Visitors can also enjoy classical dance, music, arts, and a wide selection of Thai cuisine.
The Thai Festival in Chicago continues to serve as a platform for cultural exchange, inviting Chicagoans and visitors to experience the richness of Thai heritage and the spirit of friendship that connects the people of Thailand and the United States.
Prior to the opening of the Festival, all in attendance observed a moment of silence to honor Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha at the time of national mourning on Her Royal Highness’ passing on 11 June 2026. The event’s official segment was held in the solemn atmosphere. The Consul-General, in her remarks, paid tribute to the Her Royal Highness’ dedication to public service and diplomacy and her distinguished achievements in advancing the rule of law and women’s rights.
