Meet the cast behind "The Story of Violence," and get a closer look at the artists bringing this powerful story to life.

This original production by award-winning playwright Toussaint Daniels and the men of Dixon Correctional Center unfolds over one night in Chicago, where a writer grapples with loss and is drawn into a deeper conversation about history, trauma, and healing. Through dialogue, spoken word, and rap, the cast explores the roots of violence and the resilience within communities working toward change.

Some stories demand to be heard. This is one of them. Every year, more than 14,000 people return to Chicago from incarceration, many without access to housing, employment, healthcare, or the basic resources most of us take for granted.

That’s why Teamwork Englewood is proud to partner with StillPoint Theatre Collective and the Mud Theatre Project --founded by Brian Beals, who was exonerated after 35 years of wrongful incarceration. We're collaborating with these outstanding leaders to present a powerful evening of theater and community:

“The Story of Violence”

An original play written by Toussaint Daniels and the incarcerated men of Dixon Correctional Center

On Saturday, May 30 at Kennedy King College at 6:30 p.m.

This moment wouldn’t be possible without our partners at Mud Theatre Project and StillPoint Collective and CECA at KKC. Through art, they create space for truth, healing, and transformation.
