Many young people in the Austin and west side are influence by gangs, single family homes, unemployed parents, little to no positive reinforcements. Therefore Second Chance will provide mentoring for this targeted population. The goal is to enroll 250 youths in various programs as an alternative to loitering on streets. The various programs will involve basketball, chess, tutoring, civic exposure,

encouragements from high profile individuals, seminars from representatives of the penal system, exposure and activities with community television (learning about and participating in broadcasting, lighting, editing, operating a television camera), and enrollment in computer classes (non-credited).
