In 2024, Engine 108 and Ambulance 47 which is located in Jefferson Park, responded to a childbirth that quickly became a life-threatening emergency.
At just 32 weeks, the baby was delivered during a difficult breech birth with no pulse. Without hesitation, crews immediately began neonatal resuscitation. While Ambulance 73 cared for the mother, Ambulance 47 focused on saving the baby.
Through teamwork, training and determination, the crew achieved an extraordinary outcome: the baby’s pulse returned.
Today, the family and first responders came together for an emotional reunion—a powerful reminder of the difference members of the Chicago Fire Department regularly make.
