Being Trump-like may be the worst methodology to overcome Trumpism!
By Veronica Khachatryan
The original vision of America started by the imperfect original leaders of America, gave hope to Americans and people all over the world. Its birth was a fight. The struggle to purify itself from colonization, slavery, gender bias, racism and other such ills is an ongoing effort to have Americans be Americans’ first before their loyalty to person or a political ideology such as Republican, Democrat, Independent or present day Trumpism. It seems the Republican Congress was and is instrumental in the polarizing and pulling America further apart especially after the Obama and Trump Presidential administrations. The congressional republicans started to perfect their divisive tactics. They perfected selling lies and conspiracies to Americans during the 90’s when they manufactured conspiracy theories against the Clintons. The Republicans offered opposing policies to Clintons’ Newt Gingrich called it, “Contract with America.” Americans dissatisfaction with the discord occurring in Washington and its governing body had much to do with the noise created by Republicans in the Congress and helped more Republicans get elected to offices. This was started in the Clinton Administration and perfected under Trump. They started to appeal to the anger, hurt and dissatisfaction. Americans became with each passing year more hurt, bitter and angry. They saw the rich get richer, and every scandal that Republicans created in congress helped chip away any hope they had for their American dream. So Republican leadership perfected tools of disruption, and distraction. They saw the tool of distraction was working for them. The results of the noise of the Republican Congress kept and keep other congress people from doing the job they were hired to do. Some of the leaders of the dirty tactics were and are Newt Gingrich, Jim Jordan, Lindsey Graham, Rand Paul, President Trump, Trump children and others in the background. Our current state of affairs is exacerbated by Former President Donald Trump. Even before Donald Trump became President, he was the master of these tools. He managed to spread lies about his Democratic and Republican opponents. People started to feel like Donald Trump was giving voice to their pain and grievances. He made them feel their pain was the fault of others. They saw Trump as a hero.
We must avoid being Trump like. I am pained and concerned that house Democrats are starting to adopt Trump like methods. They are showing way too much anger and getting caught up in the distractive tools that some Republican congress members are portraying. Such as the reported incident with Representative Cori Bush and Marjorie Taylor Greene. I don’t support the policies or conspiracy theories of Marjorie Taylor Greene. I think she is misguided and unqualified to be a representative and should be ignored and not be given a platform to preach her Trumpism. However, the video circulating all over social media shows that Cori Bush instigated that crazy shouting match with Greene. But the video showed that Bush’s version of events was alternative facts. Americans don’t need to see any more of this type of behavior from our elected officials. This incident with Bush gave more coverage to Greene. Greene can now claim that Bush and democrats are lying about her, Republicans and Trumpism. Claim to be a victim of left-wing media. Rep. Greene is talking to a lot of people and trying to persuade them to stand by her and Trumpism. If our elected officials can’t be civil and respectful with each other then we can kiss goodbye to the America we love.
We as Democrats need to be reaching out to our fellow Americans. We shouldn’t be so silent that Trumpism or conspiracy theorists are the loud voices. Whether we like it or not we have to live together. Marshaling resources to be at constant war with each other helps only our enemies. People who support Trumpism are hurting and we can be compassionate to them. This isn’t about if they deserve it or not. Rioters should face the justice system and the Senate should continue with the impeachment trial. But Democrats have to do it with justice and love in their hearts. We say we are against Trumpism yet being Trump like is doing the same peddling fear and hate. America will never be the promise if we each take turns hating each other and plotting and planning the downfall of other Americans. Please join me in the outreach to fellow Americans.
