Great news, neighbors! After sitting vacant in Rogers Park for 17 years, we are excited to announce that the former firehouse at 1721 W Greenleaf will become a new cafe/event space for the community! Developer Ryan Cummings and Michael Salvatore of Chicago's Heritage Hospitality Group will remodel this building from the inside out, preserving the character of the 111-year-old firehouse while updating it for the present day. The ground floor will house a 2,000-square-foot coffeehouse, while the second floor will feature 4,000 square feet dedicated to event and office space.

Thank you to Commissioner Ciere Boatright and the rest of the Department of Planning and Development for all their hard work in ensuring this former community landmark sees new revitalization for years to come! We are thrilled to see this project come to life and provide the community with a great new option for gathering and connecting.

Tras permanecer desocupado en Rogers Park durante 17 años, nos entusiasma anunciar que el antiguo parque de bomberos situado en el 1721 W Greenleaf se convertirá en un nuevo café y espacio para eventos al servicio de la comunidad. El promotor Ryan Cummings y Michael Salvatore, del Heritage Hospitality Group de Chicago, remodelarán este edificio de adentro hacia afuera, preservando el carácter de este parque de bomberos centenario —con sus 111 años de historia—, al tiempo que lo modernizan para adaptarlo a la actualidad. La planta baja albergará una cafetería de 2.000 pies cuadrados, mientras que el segundo piso contará con 4.000 pies cuadrados destinados a espacios para eventos y oficinas.

The Bureau of Forestry, a division of the Division of Streets and Sanitation, will be conducting tree trimming for the 6400 block of N Lakewood Ave and the 1400 block of W Arthur on Monday, June 1. Similar to street sweeping notifications, trees will be posted with signage in advance of tree trimming.

La Oficina de Silvicultura, una división de la División de Calles y Saneamiento, llevará a cabo labores de poda de árboles en la cuadra 6400 de N. Lakewood Ave. y en la cuadra 1400 de W. The Committee on Immigration and Refugee Rights, chaired by 40th Ward Alderman Andre Vasquez, will be holding a series of immigration resources workshops throughout June.

- On Thursday, June 4, at 6:00 p.m., join CIRR for a virtual Immigration Workshop: Understanding Your Status, with an immigration update on TPS, Asylum, DACA, and the importance of understanding your status. They will provide an overview of understanding the function of each federal agency, such as USCIS, Immigration Court, ICE Detainee Locator. This event will be only in English. - Later, join CIRR on Tuesday, June 9th, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. for their next virtual immigration briefing. Calling all volunteers! The Loyola Park Advisory Council is looking for volunteers for Artists of the Wall on June 19 in the afternoon, June 20 from 7AM-5PM, and June 21 from 9AM-4PM.

They are looking for volunteers to:

Artist check-in and registration support
Paint distribution and restocking
Set-up, clean-up, and general event help
Shifts are flexible, and you don’t need any special experience—just a willingness to help and be part of something joyful and creative.

Camp Courage applications are available now! This unique camp is designed for youth ages 13–18 and offers a hands-on introduction to the world of firefighting and emergency medical services (EMS). Camp Courage 2026 will run from June to July and will be held at various locations in the city. Space is limited, and participants will be selected based on eligibility, interest, and a short essay.
