: The One Roof Chicago Team and fellow Host Committee members were in the house at the Welcome Reception for Antonio King, appointed as the City of Chicago's first Director of LGBTQ Affairs by Mayor Brandon Johnson, who was in attendance.

Antonio underscored his commitment to being a voice for all LGBTQ Chicagoans and their families and emphasized the importance of advocacy and community, especially amid the attacks and erosion of human and civil rights of LGBTQ people across our country.

Many thanks to Center on Halsted for hosting the reception and to the Host Committee members for organizing this event.

We congratulate Director King on his appointment and look forward to working with him.

: Today's Meet Our Team spotlight is inspired by dignity, the state or quality of being worthy of honor or respect. And that's all of us!

Whether you work as a social service provider, advocate, community organizer, or legislator, human dignity is foundational to these efforts. Everyone, without exception, should have access to quality food, water, housing, education, and safety.

One Roof Chicago believes in the dignity of every human being and advocates to ensure that all can live and thrive from cradle to grave- with quality housing, vibrant intergenerational communities, and economic opportunity being the cornerstones of our work.

Patrick Baalke, Assistant Treasurer on the Board of One Roof Chicago, exemplifies this in his professional and personal life, which beautifully intersect. Bringing 28 years of experience in the healthcare field, he is committed to serving seniors, believing that every individual deserves dignity, respect, and exceptional care throughout every stage of life. Patrick's work reflects a dedication not only to operational excellence, but to creating environments where seniors can thrive and receive the support they deserve.

Welcome back to One Roof Chicago's Meet Our Team Series!

Let's talk inclusivity. This is not a buzzword at One Roof Chicago; it's a value we strive to practice within the team and in community.

For some, inclusivity is a word that feels inspirational, aspirational, positive, and warm. But practicing inclusivity requires courage, vulnerability, honesty, discomfort, and disruption.

We're not always going to feel warm and fuzzy while practicing inclusivity in our workplaces, civic organizations, and community organizations. Why?

Because inclusivity requires reflection and confrontation. Confronting our own thoughts, behaviors, actions, or inaction. Confronting established (and sometimes unquestioned) norms, systems, and policies. Confronting power.

Meet Cathy Knight, a One Roof Chicago Board Member, anti-oppression activist, and community builder. She knows a thing or two about the vision, courage, and perseverance it takes to make good trouble from within long-standing institutions.

Afterall, Cathy served for 15 years as Executive Director of Church Within a Church Movement, Inc., a progressive, anti-oppression Christian movement that operates within and beyond traditional church structures to promote inclusivity, justice, and community. Need we say more?!

: Happy Hump Day, Good People!

Welcome to today's edition of One Roof Chicago's Meet Our Team: Many Housemates, One Roof Series.

We believe in the necessity and power of community organizing and advocacy to effect social and political change. In fact, it's key to advancing One Roof Chicago's mission to ensure everyone has access to quality, affirming housing and caring communities.

Our team is no stranger to these very changemakers and disruptors for justice. Among them is Stephanie Skora, One Roof Chicago Board member, Co-Founder of Brave Space Alliance, and author and editor of the "Girl, I Guess" Progressive Voter Guide. Meet Stephanie!

: Good Afternoon, One Roof Chicago Friends!

It's time for another intro for the Meet Our Team: Many Housemates, One Roof Series.

For many of us, our relationships with elders in childhood were our first introductions to care. Whether parents and grandparents, aunts and uncles, neighbors, teachers, or babysitters, they taught us care- or the lack of it- by what they did or didn't do, what they said and how they said it, and how we felt in their presence.

Meet Layne, One Roof Chicago Board Member and courageous care champion. Jano shares what she learned watching her mother demonstrate care in action, and the profound impact she made on her life.

: Hi, Friends, and welcome to Day 2 of the Meet Our Team: Many Housemates, One Roof Series!

It truly takes a village of courageous, committed, and passionate people to create intergenerational, affirming housing, social supports, workforce development, and pathways toward financial stability for those most impacted by housing instability, discrimination, and/or social isolation.

A thru-line in all of One Roof Chicago's work is reducing isolation and loneliness, strengthening human connections, and advocating for people to live and age on their terms.

Meet Jackie Boyd, Co-Founder and Board Member of One Roof Chicago, and CEO & Founder of The Care Plan. She's a fierce and fearless leader recognized locally and nationally in care planning, navigation, and management centering the agency and dignity of LGBTQ+ individuals and families.

: Happy Hump Day, One Roof Chicago Friends!

Our mission is to build LGBTQ+-centered intergenerational communities of older adults and young people most in need of affirming housing.

Central to this mission is co-creating and nurturing spaces of care, connection, and community. Housing is a physical space, and feeling at home is an emotional and psychological space. Both are essential to creating communities and societies that are healthy, vibrant, and thriving.

People power this work advancing One Roof Chicago's critical mission, so we would like to re(introduce) ourselves to you. In celebration of Women's History Month, we're starting with the phenomenal women leaders on our team.

So, without further ado, meet Pamela Calvert, Co-Founder and Board Member of One Roof Chicago, and a total dynamo!
