Welcome back to One Roof Chicago's Meet Our Team Series!
Let's talk inclusivity. This is not a buzzword at One Roof Chicago; it's a value we strive to practice within the team and in community.
For some, inclusivity is a word that feels inspirational, aspirational, positive, and warm. But practicing inclusivity requires courage, vulnerability, honesty, discomfort, and disruption.
We're not always going to feel warm and fuzzy while practicing inclusivity in our workplaces, civic organizations, and community organizations. Why?
Because inclusivity requires reflection and confrontation. Confronting our own thoughts, behaviors, actions, or inaction. Confronting established (and sometimes unquestioned) norms, systems, and policies. Confronting power.
Meet Cathy Knight, a One Roof Chicago Board Member, anti-oppression activist, and community builder. She knows a thing or two about the vision, courage, and perseverance it takes to make good trouble from within long-standing institutions.
Afterall, Cathy served for 15 years as Executive Director of Church Within a Church Movement, Inc., a progressive, anti-oppression Christian movement that operates within and beyond traditional church structures to promote inclusivity, justice, and community. Need we say more?!
