Youth Programs
Pathways: Headed by a vision or rehabilitation teacher, this six-week summer program is open to blind and visually impaired students aged 10 to high school senior. Pathways includes training in daily living skills, such as cooking, house cleaning, shopping, cane travel, and money management. Kids participate in triathlons, go swimming, learn yoga, learn sailing, visit cultural sites
, and participate in the performing arts. Scholarships: Each spring blind and visually impaired students, living in the Chicago area, may apply for scholarships up to $3,000. Financial Aid for Glasses: Support is available for low vision students in need of glasses. Computer Training: After school and Saturday classes teach blind and visually impaired students how to use adaptive technologies for everyday tasks or job training. Mentoring: Blind and visually impaired youth are paired individually or in groups with visually impaired adults to achieve specific goals in cane travel, cooking, development of social skills, or any other area. Youth Connection Newsletter: A quarterly newsletter about opportunities and events at BSA and beyond.
