11 YEARS — AND NOW WE’RE SUPPOSED TO CELEBRATE LIKE THE 17TH WARD HAS BEEN TRANSFORMED?

I saw the incumbent’s recent post celebrating a new laundromat and promising West Englewood that “bigger and better is coming.”

First, congratulations to the business owner investing $1.3 million in our community. I WANT entrepreneurs investing here. I WANT new businesses opening here. I WANT our vacant storefronts filled and our commercial corridors thriving.

But I have a question for our incumbent: After 11 YEARS in office, where is the sustained economic development throughout the 17th Ward?

Why are residents still being told “you got next” after more than a decade?

Why is “bigger and better is coming” suddenly the message when another election is approaching?

Our community shouldn’t have to wait until election season to hear promises about what’s coming next.

I’m talking about REVENUE-GENERATING BUSINESSES. JOBS. RESTAURANTS. GROCERY OPTIONS. RETAIL. PROFESSIONAL SERVICES. ENTREPRENEURS. DEVELOPMENT THAT CREATES CAREERS AND KEEPS DOLLARS CIRCULATING IN OUR COMMUNITY.

One new business deserves to be celebrated.

But one ribbon cutting cannot become the report card for 11 years of leadership.

Residents should ask: How many businesses have opened? How many have closed? How many vacant commercial properties remain? How many jobs were created for residents? How much development reached each neighborhood? How many local entrepreneurs received opportunities to build businesses that generate sustainable income?

And most importantly:

WHAT IS THE PLAN FOR THE NEXT FOUR YEARS THAT WASN’T ACCOMPLISHED IN THE LAST ELEVEN?

The 17th Ward deserves more than announcements.

We deserve an ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY that brings investment into Auburn Gresham, Englewood, West Englewood, Chicago Lawn and West Chatham—and makes sure the people who already live here benefit from that investment.

Don’t tell one part of our community “you got next.”

Greenleaf Motivation Inc. was happy, excited, and honored to help serve our community at the Black on Black Love Community Garden Senior/Teen Take Over! ❤️🖤💚

Yes, our Founder, Mrs. Raynetta Greenleaf, is currently petitioning to earn her place on the ballot for 17th Ward Alderwoman. But this weekend showed something important about who she is and what she believes:

Serving the community comes FIRST.

Raynetta didn’t simply show up to shake hands, collect signatures, take pictures, and ask for support. She rolled up her sleeves, jumped in, and found a way to help support the organizations, residents, and small businesses serving our community.

Under the Greenleaf Motivation Inc. tent, we made room for two small businesses to operate, gain exposure, connect with residents, and serve the community at the same time. THAT is what community development looks like—creating opportunities for others while bringing people together.

💚 Crystal Turner brought Grandma’s Hand into the community through beautiful storytelling, preserving memories, wisdom, and connections across generations.

💚 Tyris Blake brought his delicious snowballs out to serve the community, giving residents a taste of what a local entrepreneur can offer.

This is exactly what Greenleaf Motivation Inc. has always promoted: entrepreneurship, exposure, collaboration, community service, and BETTER BUSINESS for our neighborhoods.

And it represents the kind of leadership Raynetta Greenleaf believes in.

Don’t just tell people you support small businesses—CREATE SPACE FOR THEM.
Don’t just talk about community organizations—WORK BESIDE THEM.

OUR SENIORS SHOULD NEVER FEEL AFRAID TO VOTE THEIR CONSCIENCE.

I want to speak directly to the seniors of the 17th Ward.

For too long, some residents have felt that because they received assistance, access to recreational spaces, help with housing, information about grants, support for their businesses, or other community resources, they somehow owe their political loyalty to the elected official who helped connect them to those resources.

You do not owe anyone your vote.

Public resources are not personal favors from an elected official. Helping residents access government programs, services, opportunities and resources is part of PUBLIC SERVICE.

You should never feel pressured to support one candidate because you fear losing something you worked for, qualified for, built over the years, or were entitled to access.

Your vote belongs to YOU.

And we cannot teach our children to speak up against bullying, intimidation, violence and wrongdoing while believing that we have to remain silent ourselves when something doesn’t feel right in our own community.

Our seniors have wisdom.
Our seniors have experience.
Our seniors have voices.
And our seniors have POWER.

Ask questions. Demand accountability. Look at the entire record. Listen to every candidate. Decide who you believe will serve this community—not who you feel obligated to support.

An elected official’s responsibility is to serve the people whether those residents voted for them or not.

I want a 17th Ward where seniors don’t have to whisper about their concerns.

Where organizations don’t fear losing opportunities because they spoke up.

Where business owners don’t believe access depends upon political loyalty.

Where residents can disagree with their elected officials without fearing retaliation.

And where government resources are treated as COMMUNITY RESOURCES—not political currency.

If we expect courage from our children, we must demonstrate courage ourselves.

SHOWING UP SHOULD MEAN MORE THAN JUST BEING SEEN. 🍃

Over this past month, I’ve attended events, visited block clubs, talked with residents, and watched the incredible work that community organizations are doing throughout the 17th Ward.

And it has reinforced something I strongly believe:

Leadership shouldn’t just show up for the picture. Leadership should show up ready to PARTICIPATE, SUPPORT and INVEST.

As your next Alderwoman, I want to build real partnerships with our working community organizations, active block clubs, and eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofits that are in good standing and doing meaningful work for our residents.

These organizations are on the ground helping our youth, seniors and families. They’re addressing violence, providing resources, organizing neighborhood events, supporting entrepreneurs and doing the everyday work that helps our community prosper.

They shouldn’t only hear from their Alderwoman when there’s an event.

I want my office to work throughout the year to connect eligible organizations with available grants, city resources, partnerships, sponsorship opportunities and other appropriate funding sources that can strengthen their work.

And when I show up, I don’t just want to say, “I was there.”

I want to participate.
I want to volunteer.
I want to connect resources.
I want to help find solutions.
And I want to support the people already doing the work.

That’s the kind of partnership I believe the 17th Ward deserves.

We have incredible people and organizations already working in our neighborhoods. Imagine what we can accomplish when their Alderwoman works WITH THEM—not just around them.

It’s time to turn over a NEW LEAF in the 17th Ward. 🍃

WHAT A GREAT DAY IN THE COMMUNITY! 🍃❤️

Father Mike’s Back-to-School Event was amazing! I had the opportunity to meet so many members of the community, enjoy the festivities, have great conversations, and collect signatures along the way.

From there, I stopped by the block club on 76th & Hermitage, and the love was REAL! ❤️ More conversations, more signatures, and most importantly—more opportunities to hear directly from the people of our community.

Every door, every block, every conversation, and every signature matters.

Thank you to everyone who welcomed me, talked with me, and signed my petition. We’re turning over a NEW LEAF in the 17th Ward! 🍃

I’m looking forward to continuing to meet you right where you are—in our neighborhoods, on our blocks, and throughout our community.

IT’S TIME FOR A NEW LEAF — RAYNETTA GREENLEAF FOR 17TH WARD ALDERWOMAN

17th Ward, I’m Raynetta Greenleaf, and I’m running to be your next Alderwoman.

I’m running because I believe our community has waited long enough for the things every thriving neighborhood deserves.

I look forward to working to open doors for new businesses and entrepreneurs right here in the 17th Ward—especially helping residents turn their ideas into businesses that can operate and grow in their own community.

I want to work with our residents and housing partners to create more opportunities for Black homeowners and future homeowners to purchase, rehabilitate and restore homes in our neighborhoods.

I want to fight for our homeowners, help residents better understand available property-tax exemptions and relief programs, and make it easier for our seniors to access the services and resources they deserve.

And I want TRANSPARENCY.

Our residents deserve to understand where our TIF dollars are going, what projects those dollars are supporting, and how those investments are benefiting our neighborhoods.

I want us to build a 17th Ward where our dollars circulate in our community.

A community where we can shop here. Eat here. Work here. Build businesses here. Raise our families here. And invest here.

We should not have to leave our community for everything we need.

After all these years, residents are still asking:

Where is our full-service grocery store?

Why are there still so many vacant lots?

Why are homes still sitting abandoned and deteriorating?

Why are so many storefronts sitting empty when our community is filled with entrepreneurs and creative ideas?

These aren’t questions we should be afraid to ask.

They’re questions our leadership should be prepared to answer.

I believe it’s time to turn vacant spaces into opportunities, strengthen homeownership, attract responsible investment, support locally owned businesses, improve essential services and make sure development actually benefits the people who already call this community home.

I don’t believe the 17th Ward lacks ideas.

I believe the 17th Ward is full of untapped potential.

And I’m ready to work with residents, businesses, organizations, city departments and community partners to turn that potential into progress.

After more than a decade, we have the right to look at where we are and decide whether we’re satisfied with the direction we’re going.

If we want a different outcome, we have to be willing to choose a new direction.

Let your voice be heard.

Let’s rebuild.
Let’s reinvest.
Let’s create opportunities.
Let’s bring businesses back.
Let’s strengthen homeownership.
Let’s take care of our seniors.
And let’s build a ward where our children can see a future for themselves.

17th Ward, it’s time for change.
