Asian Americans Advancing Justice | Chicago, an affiliate of Advancing Justice, has a mission to empower the Asian American community through advocacy, by utilizing education, research, and coalition building. Specifically, Advancing Justice-Chicago works to empower the Asian American community by:

Increasing public understanding about Asian American communities,

Advocating for policies that pro

mote social, economic, educational and political equity of the community as a whole,

Encouraging active civic participation through education and advocating for equal rights, and

Working in partnership with and supporting like-minded organizations and individuals to build positive interracial and inter-ethnic relations.

It's that time of year: FUN retreat! 🕶️

Sustainable community organizing and power building takes a team that feels connected, supported, and appreciated. We know it's important to create space for joy and laughter given how challenging our day-to-day work can be, which is why we put our work on pause for a few days each summer to focus on staff bonding and having fun. There was karaoke, games, pool time, home-cooked meals, and even a lunar eclipse! 🌕

This year's fun retreat was extra special because we celebrated two birthdays and the milestone work anniversaries of FIVE staff! 🎊 We are so grateful for our team who is deeply dedicated to building power and community🧡

📣 Last call for our KINETIC Organizing Fellowship application! 💫 The final deadline for rolling admission is midnight on Friday, September 4. Chats with the youth organizer must be completed by Friday, September 11 before the program starts on Monday, September 13!

If you're an Asian American CPS high school student interested in expanding your knowledge of political issues and develop organizing skills, apply for our organizing fellowship to take action on social justice issues and build community with other progressive Asian American youth!

Sessions will begin September 13 and run until late May 2027, and participants will get a $500 stipend.

Volunteer poll watchers help protect language and disability access at the ballot box and ensure compliance with election laws. Another group of leaders trained! ✅

Over the weekend, Advancing Justice | Chicago and AAMP held a Fundamentals of Organizing training. In addition to our members here in Chicago, we trained leaders from Ohio (OPAWL - Building AAPI Feminist Leadership in Ohio) and Minnesota (CAPI). We had rich discussions about power, self-interest, the history of Asian American organizing, and the importance of building deep relationships. Leadership development is key to growing our power, which is why we offer a 3-part training series to our members and Midwest network!

In July, the Midwest organizing team at Advancing Justice | Chicago and Asian American Midwest Progressives traveled to Springfield, OH to hold a Fundamentals of Community Organizing training! It was attended and co-facilitated by leaders from OPAWL - Building AAPI Feminist Leadership in Ohio, Hoosier Asian American Power, and AAMP Ohio.

We discussed our shared stake in AAPI organizing, gained a deeper understanding of power and self-interest, and practiced new skills for building organizing relationships. We look forward to continuing to build AAPI power alongside these Midwest leaders!
