The Global FoodBanking Network

The Global FoodBanking Network Advancing locally led solutions to alleviate hunger and reduce food waste in more than 50 countries. We’re changing that.

The Global FoodBanking Network supports community-driven solutions to alleviate hunger in more than 40 countries. While millions struggle to access enough safe and nutritious food, nearly a third of all food produced is lost or wasted. We believe food banks directed by local leaders are key to achieving Zero Hunger and building resilient food systems. In 2022, while at least 2.4 billion people fac

ed food insecurity and approximately 735 million people were affected by hunger, GFN members connected 32 million people to food through a network of more than 51,000 social service and community-based organizations.

Just a few reasons why we love it when food banks and local governments work together. ⤵️

Thanks to a partnership between the Rosario Food Bank and the city government:

-14 people have full-time jobs recovering fresh produce from one of the city’s biggest agricultural markets.

-Over eight years, the food bank has recovered more than 1 million kilograms of fresh produce from this one market alone.

If Nico Lopez is the first person you see at sunrise, you know it’s gonna be a good day.☀️

For the last six years, Nico has worked for BAR | Banco de Alimentos recovering fresh fruits and vegetables from the Mercado de Productores in Rosario, Argentina.

For Nico, this has been more than a stable job.

It’s more than a way to help others.

It’s a way to heal.

Read and watch his story at foodbanking.org.

A thriving fruit and vegetable market.

A stable job for Nico Lopez and 14 of his colleagues.

A consistent source of nutritious food for BAR | Banco de Alimentos and the people it serves.

A promise to local farmers that their hard work and food nourish people, not landfills.

In a world facing more emergencies and challenges than ever, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. But hope is in motion in the very places where communities come together. 💛

Food banks and their partner organizations are often the first to feel the pressure when crises hit — but they're also the last to retreat.

Behind every fresh meal a food bank delivers, there’s a lot happening behind the scenes.

In Guatemala, we connected Desarrollo en Movimiento with Emergent Cold to strengthen their warehouse and cold chain systems, from energy monitoring to insulation to safer storage racks.

This often unseen work adds up to more perishable food safely reaching more people.

When you walk into a grocery store, milk is cold, produce stays fresh and products stay safe to eat.

Behind the scenes is a cold chain system hard at work from farm to market to your table. 🧊

For food banks, building up these systems is critical to getting more food to more people, too. Give a thanks to the behind-the-scenes elements keeping all of this good food cool! 😎

Say "hi" to the newest team member at It Rains Food Bank of Ethiopia — their first refrigerated truck! 🚚❄️

Food bank trucks really are part of the team. They’re how fresh, nutritious food gets from farms to communities safely.

Thanks to a GFN grant, this truck has already moved thousands of kilograms of vegetables across Ethiopia.

And today, that means eggplant and cabbage sauté on the table at the Babul Kheyer center — just one of the meals served to more than 5,000 people each day in Addis Ababa.
