The New Moms Advocacy Council has been showing up, speaking out, and driving real wins for young families across Illinois—from protecting SNAP access to advancing policies that strengthen economic opportunity.

Alongside partners like Greater Chicago Food Depository, advocates pushed back against harmful federal proposals and celebrated progress, such as the Senate passage of SB2295, while supporting employment social enterprises like Bright Endeavors.

Now, we must keep the momentum going by standing up for NEST (Newborn Equity Support Transfer Program), a critical measure that would provide direct financial support to moms during pregnancy and early infancy.

Opposition is growing—and without action, this opportunity to create stable, healthy starts for nearly 50,000 Illinois families each year is at risk. Take two minutes to sign a witness slip in support of NEST and help ensure young families have the resources they need to thrive.

Motherhood is powerful. It is joyful, exhausting, transformative, and often invisible.

Yet many mothers face these challenges alone in systems that were not designed with their needs in mind.

Butterfly in a Blizzard tells the remarkable story of professional snowboarder Kimmy Fasani, who navigates motherhood, illness, and the fight to change an industry that did not fully support women balancing athletic careers and family life.

Her story reminds us that when mothers are supported, their potential—and the impact they have on the world—can be limitless.

Join us for a meaningful evening of film, reflection, and community as we explore the resilience and advocacy of mothers through the documentary Butterfly in a Blizzard.

No one should parent alone.

For many young moms, motherhood can feel isolating—but having someone in your corner changes everything.

At New Moms, that steady support comes through housing, job training, and family support—helping families move from crisis to stability and toward their goals.

When you become a Family Friend, you provide that consistency every month. Starting at just $15, your gift creates the “slack” families need to grow, breathe, and build a better future.

It’s more than a donation—it’s a reminder that no mom is alone.

Join today: https://newmoms.org/family-friend-2/

Be the steady presence every family deserves.

New Moms is proud to partner with Illinois Partners for Human Services to amplify what leaders across our sector are seeing and experiencing in real time. The latest Federal Changes, Community Consequences report, Profiles in Perseverance, lifts up powerful stories from organizations navigating uncertainty, instability, and constant change—while continuing to show up for their communities every day.

As a featured voice in the report, our President & CEO, Laura Zumdahl, shares what many providers are feeling: this moment is unpredictable, demanding, and deeply human in its impact. But it’s also an opportunity to reimagine what systems should look like. New Moms is committed to leading with insight, advocating for what families truly need, and helping shape a stronger, more responsive future for the human services sector.
