Not only can applying and getting to college be a daunting endeavor, but also navigating the higher education system, once you are there, can be an even more mystifying experience, especially for young people who are the first in their families to attend college.

Programs that mentor students to and through college can make a big impact. From learning about funding opportunities through scholarships to forming the networks to build their social capital and navigate those on-campus supports, these can all serve to better the college experience and increase persistence. This webinar will focus on the ways mentoring programs and mentors can support youth as they transition to and through college.

About the Collaborative Mentoring Webinar Series:
This free webinar series is funded by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention through the National Mentoring Resource Center and facilitated in partnership with MENTOR. These webinars would not be possible without the planning team, which includes the Mentoring Partnership, MENTOR Illinois, Mentor Independence Region, Indiana Youth Institute, Mentor Colorado, MENTOR Vermont, and Mentor Washington.

Thank you Chicago Lights for sharing this great story, and to the Chicago Cubs for your partnership and support of mentoring!

Thanks, MENTOR Illinois, for donating Chicago Cubs tickets to our Tutoring student, Kierson, who sent us this sweet email about her first Cubs game! đź’›

I wanted to thank you for the free tickets for the Chicago Cubs’ game on August 7. I had such a great experience at my first Cubs game at Wrigley Field with my brother.

On this day, I rode the red line train to Addison with my older brother, Wynston. All the Cubs fans were trickling onto the train, stop by stop. Then we sat down in our seat in the 213 area, row 13, seats 5 and 6.

The Cubs had managed to get all bases filled, and all of a sudden after the batter hit the ball, everyone around me stood up. Turns out it was a Grand Slam! I was so excited because it was my first Grand Slam ever, and I liked how everyone was so supportive of the Chicago Cubs (except for the Oakland fans).

I had endless amounts of fun, and I am so grateful for the tickets. Thank you, Kierson

MENTOR Illinois family,

Thank you for your emails and calls about our Impact Awards Breakfast. We are humbled by your love and excitement for our event and this year’s incredible speakers: Valerie Jarrett, Michael Strautmanis, and David Shapiro.

We’ve heard you loud and clear: summertime (and especially summer Fridays) is for vacation or busy keeping young people directly engaged! In our role, we try to be as responsive as possible and in keeping with that value, our Impact Awards Breakfast has been rescheduled for November 12, 2019.

Thanks again for your outstanding support and passion for the mentoring movement.

We look forward to celebrating with you at the Impact Awards Breakfast on November 12.
