Ruth López spent years exposing corruption in El Salvador and defending families whose loved ones were deported into dangerous prison conditions.

For that, she’s been imprisoned by the Bukele regime for over a year — with no warrant, no charges, and no trial.

Authoritarianism depends on fear and silence. Working people, immigrants, Black communities, and brown communities are always the first targeted.

At the same time, people here in the U.S. are struggling under crushing healthcare costs while politicians say there’s no money for Medicare or Medicaid.

We reject that lie.

For one full year, Salvadoran human rights lawyer Ruth López has been imprisoned without trial.

Ruth dedicated her career to exposing corruption, defending democratic freedoms, and advocating for families seeking answers after their loved ones were detained without due process. After filing dozens of legal petitions on behalf of those families, she was arrested herself.

Her detention raises serious concerns about authoritarian repression, judicial independence, and human rights in El Salvador.

More than 500 legal and civil society organizations — including Amnesty International — have called for her release.

The U.S. cannot stay silent.
