Mercy Sister Patricia M. Murphy, 96, died July 21 in the company of her Mercy Sisters, family members and colleagues who joined her in her ceaseless efforts to promote justice and human dignity, especially for immigrants and refugees.

Sister Pat Murphy, one of the founders of Su Casa and an advocate for immigrants died. Sister Pat was a prophetic voice for justice and lived a life worthy of the title saint. May she rest in God's glory.

Happy May Day! On this day in 1933 Dorothy Day distributed the first copies of the Catholic Worker newspaper at a mass labor rally in Union Square, NY with the words:
"For those who are sitting on park benches in the warm spring sunlight.
For those who are huddling in shelters trying to escape the rain.
For those who are walking the streets in the all but futile search for work.
For those who think that there is no hope for the future, no recognition of their plight - this little paper is addressed."
