Introducing a new series: Our Songs, Our Stories! 🎶

Our Songs, Our Stories will highlight original musical works by, for and with the young people of Uniting Voices Chicago, with a particular focus on untold stories, historically underrepresented voices and 21st century sounds. The series will focus on both new performances and highlights from the archives.

Do you have Odyssey fever? You might love “Long Way Home,” a hip-hop version of Homer’s Odyssey written and directed by Q Brothers Collective, which premiered at the Studebaker Theatre in 2018 and was released as a full cast recording in 2021. You can stream it on all major music platforms. “Chicago Fire” is the finale of the show and a fan favorite track!

Please welcome to the stage two new adult ensembles!

Uniting Voices is excited to introduce two new intergenerational ensembles so that singers can continue their musical journey long after they graduate from high school. As we celebrate 70 years of transforming lives through the power of music this season, we are expanding the ways that people can engage with our programs. Whether you’re a ten-year alum of our programs or just someone looking for a communal source of creative expression, you are invited to join.

Uniting Voices Project (18+)

Uniting Voices Project is a contemporary, semi-professional ensemble for adult singers. Rehearsing for eight weeks, members sing everything from classical and gospel to pop and folk, with opportunities to perform throughout the year at Uniting Voices concerts and special projects.

This ensemble rehearses in the Loop and is conducted by President and Artistic Director Josephine Lee. Rehearsals begin September 21.

Pamoja (17+)

Pamoja is an intergenerational, multicultural ensemble for ages 17 and up that celebrates the excellence, expression and education of Africana song and storytelling. This ensemble rehearses in Beverly, in partnership with the Beverly Arts Center, and is conducted by Director of Africana Studies Lonnie Norwood, Jr.

Pamoja (Swahili word meaning together) emphasizes that we do not achieve solely as individuals, but through shared efforts as a larger community. Whether you’re an experienced singer or simply have a passion for music and community, you belong here. Rehearsals begin September 18.

Canto Latino is back! đź‘Ź

We are so excited to celebrate the city’s proud Latin American heritage through song, story and dance at our biannual festival. This year, our theme “Salsa en mi barrio” will breathe new life into iconic salsa music. We will be exploring the historical significance and teaching the building blocks of salsa music with songs from Cuba to New York and Puerto Rico to Venezuela. Join us in celebration with our after-school programs, a live salsa band, dance and community!

Is your singer navigating their changing voice? Uniting Voices offers an ensemble called Dimension to guide these singers through the vocal transition while learning to sing a diverse repertoire with musicality, movement and expression!

Next week, we are hosting two Discovery Days for families interested in learning more about Dimension, our unique ensemble for singers approximately age 12 and up who are beginning the vocal transition into emerging tenor, baritone and bass voices.
