September is looming, and the Senate is broken. Legislation isn’t passing; our communities are hurting, and all we’re seeing is an upcoming end to the student debt payment moratorium. Joe Biden needs to act, and he needs to act fast. Instead, he’s delaying, waiting for a memo about whether he has the legal authority to cancel student debt and in the meantime being ineffective in passing bills our communities need — like raising the minimum wage.
We don’t need to wait on a memo. That’s just a stall tactic. We all know President Joe Biden has the power to keep his promises and cancel all federal student debt today. So we did his work for him: We wrote the executive order he needs to sign to cancel all federal student loans for everyone. All he has to do is “flick his pen,” and it is gone. All of it.
All it takes is a signature.
