Edgewater Chamber is sad to learn of the passing of Chicago Department of Transportation's Riley O'Neil, who was struck while riding his bike this weekend.

Riley led Chicago’s bike parking program for several years. More recently, he was helping lead CDOT’s school zone safety work and bus priority projects. He cared deeply about making biking, rolling, walking, and riding better for everyone.

Many chambers of commerce and community organizations in Chicago worked directly with Riley over the last decade to install tens of thousands of neighborhood-branded SSA-funded bike racks, like our blue Edgewater bike racks, all over the city.

Please remember that cyclists, scooter riders, skateboarders, and rollerskaters are our friends, neighbors, coworkers, and partners. Slow down, and make sure to check behind you after parellel parking before opening your door in a bike lane. Chicago's streets are for everyone.

Beach brainstorm! The Uptown and Edgewater Chamber Teams met up at The Dock at Montrose Beach to discuss collaboration opportunities. We also enjoyed one of Uptown’s best assets — our expansive lakefront! ☀️

Streetscaping, landscaping, bike racks, street banners, neighborhood branding, litter abatement, sidewalk snow removal, public art, public events, and more!

Special Service Area 26 (SSA 26) is essential to keeping Edgewater's local business districts along Broadway, and adjacent streets like Devon, Granville, and Bryn Mawr, clean, green and vibrant.

Things like murals, colorful public seating, farmers markets, holiday decor, "Cooler Near The Lake" street banners, and 3 day/week garbage pickup from Cleanslate, are all funded through this essential tax levy on local properties that provides programs and services above and beyond what the city provides.

If you're a property owner along Broadway, Devon, Bryn Mawr or Granville in Edgewater (or you know someone who is) we need your help renewing SSA 26 for another 15 years!

If we don't get signatures from property owners, SSA services will expire.
