Today, we join countless families across Chicago in mourning the loss of Spencer Leak Jr.

Spencer served families with compassion, dignity, and grace during some of life's most difficult moments. He was known not only for his professional excellence, but for his generosity, often going above and beyond to ensure families and even strangers were cared for with respect, even in their hardest hours. His life reflected a deep commitment to service and to God's people.

His family's longstanding presence in the 6th Ward and across
Chicago has brought comfort to generations, and that legacy of care continues to be felt throughout our community.

Today, our hearts are especially with the Leak family. The same family that has supported so many others through grief is now facing a heartbreaking loss of its own. We surround them with love, praying for strength in this heavy season.

On behalf of the residents of the 6th Ward, we extend my deepest condolences to the Leak family and all who loved Spencer.
May his memory be a blessing, and may he rest in eternal peace.

May his legacy continue to inspire future generations to lead with service, integrity, and purpose.

Young people deserve a seat at the table when decisions are being made about the future of our city.

The Mayor’s Youth Commission is an opportunity for Chicago youth to lead, serve, and make their voices heard through civic engagement and policy discussions. If you know a young leader between 14–19 years old, I encourage them to apply and take advantage of this opportunity to grow, connect, and create impact.

Applications close June 19.
