Cheyenne Steamers

Cheyenne Steamers Promoting wholesome family entertainment within the Cheyenne, WY area.

The Cheyenne Steamers miniature train venture is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed in 2014 designed to provide fun, wholesome, and family-uniting entertainment to Laramie County. It is the goal of the foundation to create a small amusement park with a number of fun rides for all ages to enjoy. The first ride, the 1911 Cagney Class D "Cheyenne Steamer" was installed next to the Cheyenne Ic

e & Events center in the Spring of 2014 and operated for five years offering weekend rides and special events such as our popular Halloween Haunted Train. In 2019, future development of the former Atlas Motel property required that we vacate the location and put the trains in storage. Although currently homeless, the Cheyenne Steamers organization is working on ideas for new locations. As a non-profit foundation, the goal is to build a family-friendly entertainment facility that will last through the ages. To do this, the park will remain a non-profit foundation controlled by community interest with the sole purpose of building and maintaining the park.

The California wildfires of 2020 dealt a hard blow to one of our fellow miniature railroads on August 19 and 20. The Swanton Pacific Railroad suffered a terrible loss of buildings, as well as historic miniature railroad equipment dating back to the early 1900s—roughly the same age as our Cagney-built steam locomotives.

We have learned that Cal Poly—operator of the Swanton Pacific Ranch and Railroad—has established a crowdfunding portal for individuals who wish to make a monetary donation toward the rebuilding efforts. If you would like to contribute towards these efforts, please visit https://crowdfund.calpoly.edu/project/22001

Note: There are two funds available to donate to, one for the Ranch, and another specifically for the Railroad.

A big thank you to anybody who is able to support this cause!

Stories along the way...here is a small taste....

Haunted Pumpkin Patch
Have you ever wondered how pumpkins get from the farmers fields to the store? They travel by train! Have you ever wondered how the tradition of carving pumpkins began? One story says it started right here in Cheyenne......As the train approached Speer Junction, just five miles south of here, the train struck a large herd of buffalo and the train derailed!......The railroad spirits then took their old signal lanterns and placed them inside the pumpkins to both light the tracks and scare the buffalo away, preventing any more accidents. ......
