Wildland 1 has been on the line with the initial attack near Abilene, TX, supporting crews on both the Sh***un Fire and Bright Light Fire. Over the past four days, firefighters have pushed through suppression, structure protection, firing operations, and mop‑up to get these incidents under control. Cheyenne Fire Rescue wildland team members have been working alongside a strong interagency task force: bulldozers and motor graders from the Texas A&M Forest Service, an engine from Yoder, WY, a water tender from Chaffee County, CO, and a strike team of engines from Utah.

A lot of teamwork. A lot of grit. A lot of good work being done.

Cheyenne Fire Rescue Responds to Residential Structure Fire, Saved Two Cats

On September 4, CFR responded to a residential structure fire on Oak Ct in Cheyenne. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from a single-story residence and quickly determined the fire was in the basement.

Engine 4 rapidly entered the home with a fire hose while additional crews established water supply, conducted searches and ventilation, and rapid intervention support. The fire was quickly extinguished, and primary searches were completed.

Two cats were located inside and successfully rescued by firefighters. AMR provided oxygen and rehabilitation before the cats were reunited with their family.

No injuries were reported. The American Red Cross is assisting the family due to fire damage to the residence. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Cheyenne Fire Rescue Fire Marshal personnel.

Cheyenne Fire Rescue is officially kicking off our MDA Fill the Boot campaign today. Our crews will be out in the community collecting donations from today through Tuesday, helping raise critical funds for families living with muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related neuromuscular diseases.

Our Chief Officers recently recognized Engineer Chris Hunter on his decade of service to Cheyenne Fire Rescue. He and his fellow firefighters were observed engaging in a spirited exercise, ascending ten flights of stairs multiple times, demonstrating their commitment to maintaining peak physical condition for their duties. We are indeed fortunate to have such a remarkable team of professionals devoted to serving the Cheyenne community.

Thank you Hobbs Elementary for having Cheyenne Fire Rescue and the Fire Marshal’s Office out yesterday for your fire drill. Your students and staff did an outstanding job — calm, quick, and well‑organized from start to finish.
All schools are required to complete their first fire drill within the first 10 days of the school year, and Hobbs set a strong example of preparedness and teamwork. Slow down in school zones — Kids are out early, and many are still learning safe crossing habits.
Watch for buses — Never pass a stopped school bus with flashing red lights.
Give pedestrians the right of way — Crosswalks will be busy; stay alert and avoid distractions.
Plan extra travel time — First‑day traffic always runs heavier than expected.

Cheyenne Fire Rescue is honored to mark a historic milestone for our department and our city. On September 1st, we will officially place our first ambulance into service with a traditional washdown and push‑in ceremony — a nod to our roots and a celebration of our future. This time‑honored tradition reflects where we came from and the progress we continue to make as we expand our emergency medical transport capabilities for the first time in CFR history. We are grateful for the support of our community partners, City leadership, AMR, and our citizens who make moments like this possible.
