We are grateful to have welcomed David Giralt for Wyoming to the Children's Advocacy Project in Casper to learn more about the work being done to support Wyoming children and families.

Every child deserves safety, healing, and hope. Through a coordinated, child-focused approach, CAP has helped thousands of children and families navigate some of the most difficult moments of their lives while reducing trauma and promoting healing.

Thank you for taking the time to visit, listen, and recognize the importance of child advocacy services in Wyoming. We are proud of the dedicated professionals who work every day to protect children, support families, and create safer communities for all.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of visiting the Children's Advocacy Project in Casper and learning more about the important work they do to protect Wyoming’s children.

Since opening, CAP has helped 2,732 children through coordinated services that support families, reduce trauma, and help keep kids safe.

Every child deserves to grow up in a safe environment. Thank you to the CAP team for the work you do every day to protect children, support healing, and fight for Wyoming families.

Building safer communities
Services, support and Wyoming’s fight against child abuse

In Weston County, combating child abuse is not the work of a single agency.
It is a coordinated effort among local law enforcement, the Wyoming Department of Family Services, child advocacy centers, prosecutors, educators and community members — all working to protect children, support families and prevent further trauma.

Spotting the signs
Child abuse in small towns

April marks Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month, a time dedicated to recognizing the realities of child abuse, supporting families and educating communities on how to protect children.
For Jewel Parrish, the work is both urgent and deeply rooted in community awareness. As executive director of Child Advocacy Centers of Wyoming, Parrish helps oversee services aimed at supporting children and families across the state — including those in rural areas like Weston County.

A common misconception is that false reports of child s*xual abuse are frequent. In reality, they are not.

Less than 5% of reports are false.

When a child speaks up, they deserve to be heard and taken seriously. Choosing to act, even when it feels uncomfortable, helps create safer environments for children.

2026 We’re starting the week with something that shapes everything: consent.

Consent is a clear, informed, and freely given “yes.” It can be taken back at any time.

Silence is not consent.
Pressure is not consent.

Every child—and every person—has the right to decide what happens to their body.

Let’s keep teaching, modeling, and protecting that right. 💙

"When most Americans think about child s*x trafficking, they envision something like the movie 'Taken,' where organized criminal gangs abduct unsuspecting teens almost at random. But the reality is more mundane."

Our CEO, Teresa Huizar, writes in The Detroit News about the gap between media perception and sad reality on child trafficking. Her new op-ed explains what child trafficking actually looks like, what dynamics drive it, and the surprising places it's found. And, most importantly, she details the simple policy changes many states are already making to prevent it.

In 2025, Wyoming’s three Child Advocacy Centers served 449 children—each one a young person who deserved to be heard, supported, and protected. 💙

This number reflects only the children seen at our CACs. It does not include children in jurisdictions that conduct their own forensic interviews or those who must travel out of state for services. The true need is even greater.

Behind every number is a child, a family, and a community impacted by abuse. At Child Advocacy Centers of Wyoming, we are committed to ensuring every child has access to a safe, child-friendly place to tell their story and begin the path to healing.

There is still more work to do. Together, we can continue to strengthen services, expand access, and stand up for Wyoming’s children.
