A Twist in the River by Stig Abell is an atmospheric British mystery set in the seemingly peaceful countryside. When a young nurse disappears beside the river, leaving only her phone and shoes behind, former detective Jake Jackson is pulled into the search. Then another woman is found dead, and what looked like a tragic accident begins to feel much more sinister. It’s a slow-burn, character-driven mystery with beautiful descriptions of rural England, plenty of suspects, and that wonderful contrast between an idyllic setting and something dark lurking underneath. Perfect if you enjoy mysteries that are as much about place and atmosphere as the crime itself.

Yes — The Lies They Told by Ellen Marie Wiseman.

Short review:
A gripping historical novel about family secrets, survival, and the devastating consequences of lies. Wiseman does a wonderful job weaving a deeply personal story into a darker period of American history. Emotional, unsettling at times, and very hard to put down. A compelling read about how the truth has a way of resurfacing, no matter how deeply it’s buried.

A beautiful memoir by Salman the photographer called HOLD STILL.

She documents, her family in only photographs, but one day while sorting through boxes of Family papers she finds a payload of deceit and scandal, alcoholism, domestic, abuse, car crashes, bogeyman, clandestine affairs, disputes among families, abandonment, suicides, hidden addiction, racial complications, vast sums of money made, and lost even… murder!!

This one I got from the library. It was recommended by Anne Patchett on one of her videos.

OK, this up next! A historical fiction story based on the real life of Isabella Stuart Gardner who opened her groundbreaking Boston mansion as a public museum to showcase her huge collection of masterworks of art. She was a little sassy in 1861, newly married and too outspoken to fit in with hugh society. After two devastating tragedies and severe rejection, she cast off all expectations. Read to find out what happens with her adventures and travels.

What an amazing story. I am listening to it on audio and yes, it’s 20+ hours long however because of the slow southern Mississippi drawl of the narrators it was able to speed it up to 1.5 and shave off six hours and I absolutely love it. It sounds perfect!! It’s the most clever story of two completely different types of women coming together for a common goal. I laughed and I cried, and I just want to be part of the calamity club girls. This is the same author who wrote The Help.

Let's all sign! REPOST & PASS THIS ON! Also, a new LFL box will hopefully be donated at the new Pocket Park Splash Pad, for adults, kids, and pups. This will be a gathering place for all, with landscaping and benches donated by an angel...assuming it becomes a reality! Link to the petition here too: https://forms.gle/6A4B1eh3LdaihJXu6

Taking an annotation class with on Instagram as we dig into an old American Classic Lonesome Dove, all 900 pages of it. Learning how to annotate a book is a whole new level of reading and understanding - a complete game changer.

I never thought I would love a book so much about cowboys and rides from Texas to Montana. It is beautifully written and I feel everybody should read it! Please leave a comment if you annotate or if you’ve read this book!
