West Deer Food Bank

West Deer Food Bank Food is distributed the first and third Wednesdays of each month. Doors open no earlier than 10:00 a Tens of thousands steelworkers were
unemployed.

In the early to mid 1980s, the steel industry collapsed in Pittsburgh. The number of steelworkers
in the Pittsburgh area dropped 50% in just four years. During the recession in 1982, The West Deer Food Bank (WDFB) was founded. Many families
were without food. Sherry Smith and other volunteers helped provide food to 59 needy families
in the community. WDFB vows to continue its service until it is n

o longer necessary. The West Deer Food Bank depends on donations from citizens and government subsidies to purchase groceries and for other expenses
