At the Steeler game on Sunday, Master Sergeant Tim Motte was recognized on the field with the Salute to Heroes award. He’s not in our district, but I feel compelled to highlight his extraordinary service. Listen to all this guy has accomplished!

As a First Responder: Motte served as a Pennsylvania State Trooper for 25 years and was an immediate first responder at the United Airlines Flight 93 crash site.

As a Service Member: Motte enlisted in the National Guard following 9/11. He spent 28 months on active duty and deployed to 42 countries, including two combat tours in Iraq where he helped rescue American prisoner of war Jessica Lynch.

Community Advocacy: Motte serves as the Vice President and a board member of Gunny's Ridge, an educational farm and nonprofit dedicated to helping veterans and first responders manage mental health and trauma.

The AI warnings coming from the nation’s leading computer scientists are worrisome. We need rapid federal level action and international cooperation by elected officials who will listen to what the scientists are telling us.

Unfortunately, President Trump does not have a good record of listening to scientific consensus.

Trump does, however, sometimes seem to listen to his base. If you are concerned about AI, I encourage you to call or email President Trump and your elected members of the US Congress and Senate.

We need to send a resounding message to our Federal government that we want AI regulation and we want it now.

I took my kids to the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville a few years ago on our way to the Capital. It was a powerful experience for the kids, who are too young to know first hand the shock and horror of that day 25 years ago. We were humbled at the bravery of the people that chose to fight and we wept listening to the calls the passengers made home to their families before the plane went down.
I remember that when we got back to our car we sat in silence for a long time before I had the strength to drive.
And then, after a while back on the road, I started to tell them beautiful stories about how the country came together...

Happy Labor Day!

This Labor Day and EVERYDAY, I am proud to stand with Unions.

In this photo is a bright young woman I’ve known for many years. After school, she decided to pursue trade school, excelling in her training and becoming a licensed heavy equipment operator.

Through her hard work and the support of her Union, she has a bright future ahead with good
wages, benefits, and many career options. She has enriched her life and the lives of her future family.

I am happy to see her succeed and so are her Operating Engineers Local 66 Sisters and Brothers.

Good morning- we are still without power today at my house.
At this point, we are experiencing multi day outages multiple times a year at my home. It’s getting to be a serious issue.
Is anyone else still without power? If you live in the Allegheny Valley and are still without, will you please email me? I’d like to try to understand how many people are still in the dark.

It’s bad out there tonight! Please be careful. Just had to venture out to pick up one of my kids. I took 40 minutes to travel a distance that normally takes about 10 minutes. We saw high voltage lines down blocking a road, flooded roads, trees on wires, telephone poles snapped in half and caught in lines, streams close to breaching their banks, and this fire from downed lines. Lots of danger. Stay home if you can. So sorry to everyone without power, we are without again at my home, too. 😭

Heavy rain in the area this morning. I hope everyone is ok!

Our houses and infrastructure are just not designed to handle such heavy rain, which has become the new normal.

Building codes are based on historic weather data. But the reality is that CLIMATE CHANGE HAS CAUSED SIGNIFICANT SHIFTS IN WEATHER PATTERNS.

We need to look out our windows and wake up, acknowledge that climate change is real, and pivot to using CURRENT WEATHER DATA when structuring building codes to protect ourselves and our communities against damage from intense rainfall.

I represent a bunch of people who are experiencing flooding in their houses today because a developer came in a clear cut established forest behind them. Now all that water is pouring into their houses. If building codes used current weather data, the developer wouldn’t have been permitted to clear cut that site. Forest is an incredibly useful tool in managing water.

I’ll keep pushing for this in Harrisburg, but please ask your municipality to use current weather data to update their codes.
