1878/‘79. My bold and daring gr grandparents at Tolchester modeling the newest in fashion, the bathing costume! These were heavy(wool or flannel) and became heavier when wet. Hers was a bloomer suit and had heavy “modesty” weights in the hem to keep her dress from floating up. It appears the photo was possibly taken in a “bathing machine” ( mobile beach hut).

Sadly Bill sent me these photos along time ago.

I wasn't sure if I should tie the parks history with the Nike Base. But it was an integral part of keeping the park open. Bill Betts started the museum and never really touched on the Nike Bases history. I've always tried to keep his wishes and share Tolchester Beach with everyone. But I feel having a Nike Missile Base right next door has a historical story to be told.

Anyone who served at the Base or maybe had a story of this Missile base please don't hesitate to tell it. Feel free in the comments. If you don't want your name out there then feel free to inbox me. Just trying to keep this history alive.
