If you love history and like to dress in colonial kit, check out one of our new Explore America summer internship partnerships with . Annabella Goglia ’27 (History major) was a Living History and Research Intern at both Historic Pickney Street and the Hogshead Trades Museum, researching the 18th-century middling class and tradespeople while participating in living history as a costumed interpretive historian. Historic Annapolis, Inc. was founded to ensure that the legacy of Annapolis’s past would continue to enrich the city’s future and was instrumental in getting the Colonial Annapolis Historic District listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Each night will feature 13 students presenting their summer internship experience at leading cultural institutions, non-profits, and government agencies from New York to West Virginia.

The Chitlin’ Circuit came to prominence in the 1930s on the tail end of Black Vaudeville shows which were popular in the United States beginning in the 1880s. Performance venues ranging from the mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and Southern regions hosted Black comedians, actors, and musicians in the age of segregation. In 1945, Graves, a U.S. Army sergeant, opened the Uptown Club in Chestertown, MD, where iconic musicians such as Little Richard, Chubby Checker, Etta James, and James Brown all played.

My grandmother lived on the same block for my entire life, the 400 block of Calvert Street in Chestertown, Maryland. It’s a small strip of affordable housing that is mostly inhabited by Black families and has been for much of the town’s history.  She was one of the few white people who lived on...
