Governor Hochul has announced that the Moriah Shock Facility and Ogdensburg Prison will be closed. Local officials are concerned about the economic impact of the closures. In the past, new Adirondack prisons were touted as a source of jobs replacing logging, trucking, and mill jobs lost to the massive acquisition of productive woodlands and their conversion to "forever wild" forest preserve off limits to the forest product industry.
