The policy implications of this data need to be addressed. Too many assistance programs are using out dated poverty level designations as criteria for providing assistance. This report shows us that it isn’t enough. If you have thoughts or concerns about this, please share them. Elected officials need to hear from real people in addition to research reports.

School being out means that it is time for the Chesterton Summer Fun Program!

For nearly 80 years, the Summer Fun Program has been a place for children to make memories while enjoying arts and crafts, sports, games, and more.

The Summer Fun Program at Chesterton Park will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, beginning on June 8 and ending on July 31.

This program is completely free, and you can register at Chesterton Park from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. on any day when the program’s in session!

NEW : WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING LATEX PAINTS THIS YEAR AT THE HHW EVENTS. We have a special latex paint recycling event on October 17th, 2026. But other than that, NO LATEX PAINT. (spray paints, paint thinners, paint st*****rs, and stains are OK to bring).

This FREE collection event helps Porter County residents to properly dispose of hazardous waste that can be found in your homes. Examples include cleaning supplies, oils, chemicals, fertilizers, and more which can pose significant risks to our ecosystems and wildlife if not handled correctly.
