After weeks of gorgeous weather, our first Summer Tunes Concert of 2026 with Chesterton Parks and Recreation fell on a rainy day.

For everyone's comfort, we are moving the concert indoors to the Baugher Center tonight - please join us for fresh popcorn, cool tunes, and bonus - no mosquitos! Hope to see you there 🎷

We’re aware of the ongoing issues related to usage of e-bikes and e-motorcycles throughout town and in our park system. We’ve had a few reported issues regarding e-bicycles in recent years, but it seems most of the problems we have now are related to e-motorcycles. Some of these devices can easily reach speeds of over 45 mph. Over the past few weeks, our staff has observed e-motorcycle riders do the following:

- Cut through the splash pad and various playgrounds while they’re being used
- Weave between and around pedestrians on our trails
- Treat the boardwalk at Coffee Creek Park like a racetrack
- Tear up sod throughout our park system
- And amazingly enough, doing burnouts in our restrooms.

We look forward to working with our Police Department to address these issues. We’re concerned for not only the safety of the visitors of our parks, but also for the juveniles operating these devices in completely inappropriate settings.

We recently installed new drinking fountains at Chesterton Park and Thomas Centennial Park. The fountains are bi-level with bottle fillers and the all important pet stations to better accommodate pet owners. These improvements came at the suggestion of our Sustainability Commission, who also helped fund the project. We appreciate their support!

The opening date of the Summer Fun Program is next Monday, June 8! ⚽️🏓🎨

The program will take place at Chesterton Park Monday through Friday from 10 am - 2 pm through July 31. The program will not meet the week of June 29 due to the holiday.

Participants can register in person at our "Meet the Staff" nights at Chesterton Park scheduled for Monday, June 1 and Tuesday, June 2 from 6 - 7 pm each night. Participants can also register at the park anytime during the program's hours once it begins. We're looking forward to another great summer! 😎☀️

A reminder that members of our Tree Board and Girl Scout Troop 35775 will be at the opening date of the Chesterton's European Market tomorrow to distribute free seedlings while supplies last! The species this year are Eastern Redbud and Ninebark. 🌳

We are thankful every year for the opportunity to participate in Rebuilding Together Duneland! This year we worked with The Duneland Garden Club on a few landscaping projects at Thomas Centennial Park. We had a fantastic group of volunteers this year! We spread about 30 yards of mulch around various areas of the park, and started the prep work for new landscaping around the recently renovated bandstand. Thanks to everyone that helped! 🤝👊😀
