This afternoon a dedication ceremony was held to place the new “Medic 51” Ambulance in-service. The event included:

- Remarks by Fire Chief Jamey Burrows, Union Township Trustee Tim Dunham, and Union Township Board President Jack Odle

- A blessing of the truck by Chesterfield Christian Church Pastor Ned Clark and EMFT Chaplain Chuck Ehrhart.

- A Fire Service tradition of “pushing” the truck in the station for the first time.

We wish to sincerely thank everyone involved in bringing this new life saving emergency vehicle to service.

A ceremony to dedicate the new Medic 52 will be conducted in the next couple of weeks once it’s ready for service.

Congratulations to Chief Jamey Burrows on renewing his Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Designation for another three years through the Center for Public Safety Excellence!

This is a big accomplishment and a reflection of Chief Burrows’ commitment to professional growth, leadership, and serving our community. The renewal process isn’t easy—it requires extensive documentation of training, certifications, community involvement, professional experience, and a peer-review interview with fire service leaders from across the country.

To put this achievement into perspective, there are currently only 35 active CFO designees in Indiana.

We’re proud to have Chief Burrows leading the East Madison Fire Territory and appreciate the dedication he brings to our staff, and the citizens we serve every day.

Please join us in congratulating Chief Burrows on this well-deserved achievement!

🚲 Summer Safety Reminder from East Madison Fire Territory 🚲

As kids and families spend more time outside this summer, don’t forget one of the simplest ways to stay safe while riding a bicycle… wear a helmet.

📊 According to the CDC, helmets can reduce the risk of serious head injury by nearly 70%.

📊 Hundreds of children are treated in emergency rooms every day across the U.S. for bicycle-related injuries.

Whether you’re riding around the neighborhood, campground, or trail, make sure your helmet fits properly and is buckled every ride.

A helmet only works if you wear it. Stay safe and enjoy your summer! ☀️🚴

Today was Hoosier Burn Camp Family Day, and the East Madison crew got an early start so they could head to camp, join fire apparatus from around the state for the parade, and spend the day making snow cones for the campers and their families.

It’s always a fun day, and it's an event we love being a part of in support of Burn Camp and the work they do.

Keeping children safe in and around water allows everyone to enjoy summer water activities. Drowning is the leading cause of death for children 1 to 4 years old, and the second leading cause of unintentional injury death for children 5 to 14 years old.

Drowning can happen in seconds and is often silent. It can happen to anyone, any time there is access to water. This includes pools and lakes, and also smaller water bodies like bathtubs and water-filled buckets.

Always have a designated sober adult who is dedicated to being a spotter, when children are swimming. For more swimming safety tips, check out ====> https://www.cdc.gov/drowning/prevention/summer-swim-safety.html
