🌱 WE ARE DONE… FOR NOW! 🌱
Our native garden is officially planted, and we couldn’t be more excited about what’s to come! A HUGE thank-you to our incredible Beautification Committee, led by Marjorie Nehring, for making this project happen. ❤️
A very special shout-out to Halleh Ghodrati Burton, Becky Petty, and Pat Dietrich, who worked incredibly hard planting 100+ plants in 100+ degree heat! 🥵🌿
Your dedication is amazing!
We are also so grateful to Chesterfield Valley Nursery and River City Natives LLC for their incredibly generous donation of 295 plants and compost. Your support made this garden possible!
And thank you to Cynthia Pavelka from Mason Ridge Elementary for sharing several plants with us — and, just as importantly, sharing her knowledge and wisdom along the way. 🌱
🌼 What’s Growing?
Our garden now includes:
🌿 False indigo
🌿 Amsonia illustris
🌿 Missouri primrose
🌿 Multiple varieties of sedges
🌿 Butterfly milkweed
🌿 Yellow & purple coneflowers
🌿 Black-eyed Susans
🌿 Gray-headed coneflower
🌿 Barbara’s buttons
🌿 Yarrow
🌿 Canadian wild rye grass
The best part? Every plant in our garden is native to our area, meaning once established, these plants will require minimal watering and maintenance while providing valuable habitat and resources for local pollinators and wildlife. 🦋🐝
We can’t wait to see what happens in the spring as everything begins to grow, bloom, and flourish! 🌸
And we’re not quite finished yet… 👀 We hope to add some student artwork to the garden soon, making this a truly special space created by and for our school community.
Thank you to everyone who helped dig, plant, haul, donate, advise, and cheer us on. This garden is a beautiful example of what our community can accomplish together! ❤️🌱
