Behind every siren, every response, and every life saved there is a voice guiding the way.

To our dispatchers: you are the unseen heroes of every call. You are the calm in the chaos, the steady voice on someone’s worst day, and the critical link that keeps our crews and our community safe. While we’re on the scene, you are managing the bigger picture handling multiple calls, coordinating resources, and making split-second decisions that matter.

Your dedication, professionalism, and heart do not go unnoticed. We may be the ones seen, but you are always the ones heard first.

From all of us at TMFD, thank you for everything you do, every single day. We couldn’t do this job without you. Happy 2026 TCO week.

The South Carolina Forestry Commission is issuing a statewide Red Flag Fire Alert, effective immediately until further notice.

The alert is being issued to strongly discourage people from burning outdoors when weather conditions present an elevated risk of wildfire. In addition to drought intensifying from a lack of significant rainfall, forecasts are calling for higher winds, low humidities and no precipitation in the foreseeable future.

A Red Flag Fire Alert does not prohibit outdoor burning, provided that all other state and local regulations are followed, but the Forestry Commission uses the alert to strongly encourage citizens to voluntarily postpone any such burning until the alert is lifted. Because current weather conditions are very conducive to fires escaping easily and spreading rapidly, anyone considering outdoor burning should take extra precautions if they still choose to burn under a Red Flag.

“The combination of dangerous conditions and dry fuels we’re going to see statewide for the next several days all add up to an elevated wildfire risk, and any fire that ignites is likely to burn intensely and spread rapidly,” said SCFC Fire Chief Darryl Jones. “With this alert, we’re asking people to respect the weather and hold off from burning outdoors until the weather improves. If you have burned recently, we encourage you to monitor the burn area to make sure the dry conditions don’t cause it to rekindle.”

Adding to the danger, particularly in the western part of the state, are the heavy fuel loads that remain in our forests from Hurricane Helene. Not only can these downed, drying trees and other fuels act as kindling, increasing the risk of wildfire ignition and spread, but they also are likely to impede firefighters’ access, adversely impacting response capability.

Although a Red Flag Fire Alert does not ban outdoor burning, it does trigger certain county or local ordinances that restrict outdoor fires, so residents should contact their local fire departments to check whether such restrictions apply in their areas. The alert will remain in effect until lifted by the Commission, whose fire managers will continuously monitor the situation.

This week has been eventful for us. We started our week on Monday with a structure fire in our area. First arriving unit reported a single level structure with fire showing from 3 sides. We responded an Engine, Tanker and Service Truck. Receiving aid from Chesterfield and Bay Springs, hand crews worked together to attack the fire from multiple angles, making interior fire attack to stop the fire from progressing while units from all 3 departments worked together to provide a steady supply of water to extinguish the fire.

Tuesday we provided assistance to EMS with lifting a patient and packaging them for transport.

Wednesday afternoon we provided aid to Chesterfield and Ruby Mt Croghan fire for a commercial fire. Units reported a repair shop with flame and smoke showing. We provided personnel and a service truck. Later that same evening, we provided aid to Cheraw Fire for a residential structure fire. Units reported fire blowing from one side of the structure. Provided was a service truck, engine and tanker with personnel.

Thursday morning we were dispatched to a possible residential fire. We responded with a service truck and personnel. Fortunately our services were not needed, units reported no fire found at the residence.

We stand ready to provide assistance to our neighbors and provide the best possible service to our citizens through teamwork and dedicated training. Want to make a difference and join our ranks to provide this service to your community? Follow the link and fill out an application today! We are always looking for new, eager to learn members to help us carry out our mission. No experience needed! We look forward to hearing from you.

Beginning 06:00 AM tomorrow 1/11/2026, Chesterfield County as well as numerous others will be under a red flag notice.

This does not mean you cannot burn, however outdoor burning of any kind is extremely discouraged due to the lack of sufficient rainfall in the past few weeks, coupled with low humidity. Grass and brush are dry and very susceptible to ignition, even if you didn’t intend on it. While it’s this dry, a small grass fire can easily turn into 20 acres or more of fire within minutes.

We strongly discourage you to burn during this time, urging you to wait until after next rainfall to do so. It may just save your property, house, or your neighbors. Once the red flag is lifted, we will post again to notify you.

Thank you for helping us prevent wildfires.

Yesterday afternoon kept us busy. Mid afternoon, Chesterfield Fire requested our services for brush trucks and manpower for a large brush fire on Roy Shaw Road. We provided 3 brush units and an Engine to assist with containment.

Also on scene, Ruby-Mt Croghan Fire, Cheraw Fire, Brocks Mill Fire, and SC Forestry Commission. Before a control time was issued, the fire grew to an estimated 20-25 acres. Official numbers not yet released. In total, 5 structures in immediate danger were saved thanks to the quick and combined efforts of each department working hand in hand.

Later that evening as we prepared for our business meeting, we were dispatched to a 3 vehicle motor vehicle accident, responding 3 apparatus and numerous personnel. Fortunately injuries and damage were minor.

Thank you to the surrounding departments for their continuous support on incidents such as these and to the community we serve, we appreciate you all.

Yesterday afternoon was something special. With assistance from Bay Springs Fire, Patrick Fire, Patrick Rescue, Chesterfield Rescue, SC Forestry Commission and Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office, we es**rted home the son of one of our own.

3 year old Wyatt Smith, son of Firefighter Brandon Smith, has been battling and recovering from a brain tumor the past few weeks in Charleston. Though Christmas looked a little different for them this year, through diligent work from doctors and continued prayer from us and his family, Wyatt has returned home with his family.

In celebration of his and his family’s victory, The Smiths were surprised with a full es**rt to finish their return home. We are so grateful for the support of each organization listed that assisted with the es**rt and are honored to be able to show the Smith Family such support as they settle back into their home, a small token of the community and camaraderie found deep in the first responder community.

Welcome Home everyone! We wish you steady and continued recovery and well wishes!
