On the first night of Pre-Service, we share a powerful video that reminds us that every child deserves more than care—they deserve connection, stability, and love.

Medically fragile children are among the most vulnerable youth in the child welfare system. Many require specialized medical care, frequent appointments, adaptive equipment, or skilled nursing support. Yet beyond their diagnoses, they are children who want the same things every child wants: to feel safe, loved, included, and part of a family.

In Pennsylvania, approximately 15,000 children are in foster care at any given time, and many have complex medical, developmental, or behavioral health needs. The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services defines children with medically complex conditions as those with chronic health conditions affecting multiple body systems and requiring ongoing skilled medical intervention.

The need for foster families willing to open their homes to children with medical needs continues to grow. While the journey may look different than traditional foster care, families receive training, support, and resources to help children thrive.

At Children's Choice, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to experience the comfort of home, regardless of their medical challenges.

The Mariposa program serves youth ages 9-12 who are experiencing, or have experienced, addiction within their family system. The core component of the Mariposa program model is 6 free weekend sessions (campers attend all six) that are held throughout the school year. Each weekend offers traditional camp activities enhanced with educational and therapeutic elements designed to help youth understand addiction, process emotions related to their family member's substance use, and to teach a variety of problem-solving and self-care strategies. Youth spend the weekend bonding with other youth and trained adult mentors while having fun in a safe and caring space.

As National Foster Care Month comes to a close, we reflect on the stories, the need, and the hope that exists within every foster care journey. 💙

Behind every statistic is a child longing for stability, a family working toward healing, a foster parent opening their heart, and a community choosing to show up with compassion.

Foster care is filled with moments that are difficult, meaningful, heartbreaking, healing, and transformative all at once. And every story matters.

If foster care has touched your life in any way—whether through personal experience, adoption, kinship care, fostering, reunification, advocacy, or simply witnessing the impact from a different perspective—we would love to hear your story.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Memorial Day is more than the start of summer—it is a reminder of sacrifice, courage, and the enduring impact of those who served so others could live in freedom.

As we spend time with family and loved ones today, we also hold space for the military families carrying loss, remembrance, and pride.

From all of us at Children’s Choice, we extend our gratitude to the fallen heroes and the families who continue to honor their memory every day. ❤️🤍💙

May is Foster Care Awareness Month, and the need for foster parents is growing. Children of all ages are waiting for safe, caring homes and supportive adults in their lives.

You don’t have to have all the answers to take the first step. If you’ve ever considered fostering, check out an information session with one of our partner agencies and learn how you can support children in our community.
