Last Thursday, Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon visited the Ruth Bennett Community Farm! She talked with farm and CHA staff members about the incredible work it does.

We appreciated the time she took to stop by on a free produce distribution day to get a behind-the-scenes look at how the farm prepares for it every other week.

The next distribution day is on Thursday, September 10th from 1 to 3 p.m.

CHA and Making A Change Group closed out the Summer Food Program on August 20th.

The program provided meals for a total of 25 children, with about 10 to 15 children getting meals on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays throughout July and August. Additionally, the Chester Water Authority helped supply cases of water to keep everyone hydrated.

In addition to the meals, children also enjoyed numerous activities, including kickball, games, puzzles, reading, and more at CHA’s Booker T. Washington Community Center.

On Tuesday, September 1st, J. Lewis Crozer Library will offer free after school meals for youth.

Youth can stop by and grab a free healthy meal in a safe and welcoming space — thanks to its partnership with Feed Philly Now and Ava’s Farm.

The Ruth Bennett Community Farm will continue with its FREE produce distributions on Thursday, August 27th from 1 to 3 p.m.

Boxes filled with local produce, seasonal greens, and eggs will be distributed.

Don’t miss the Mayor’s End-of-Summer Celebration this Saturday, August 22nd from 2 to 5 p.m. on Edgmont Avenue between 5th and 6th streets.

To close out the safe summer series and celebrate the end of summer, the event will include food, water ice, games, music, and much more.

The celebration is also in partnership with Get Plugged In’s Block Party taking place from 2 to 8 p.m. on the same day on the 400-600 blocks of Avenue of the States.

🎒 It’s almost time for students to go back to school!

Need some help getting ready? On Saturday, August 22nd, there will be a FREE Back to School Resource Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Resource Fair will be filled with fun, resources, giveaways, free health screenings, free haircuts, healthy food baskets for families, clothing, shoes, book bags, school supplies, parenting support, essential household items, job training resources, and more.

This event is hosted by The International People’s Storehouse (T.I.P.S.)., The Chester Upland School District, Hip Hop 4 Peace, and City of Chester, PA Government.

A pop-up block party will be taking place at CHA’s Ruth L. Bennett Homes on Saturday, August 15th!

This event is part of the City of Chester, PA Government and Mayor Roots’ Safe Summer Series.

The block party will take place from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. It will include moon bounces, water slides, food, music, games, and more.

The Safe Summer Series brought pop-up block parties to neighborhoods across Chester, PA every Wednesday and Saturday from July 8th through August 15th.
