🍀 Cheshire Public Safety Commission – St. Patrick’s Day PSA 🍀

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, Cheshire! While we can’t guarantee you’ll find a pot of gold, we can suggest a few ways to keep the luck going:

• Look both ways—leprechauns are quick, but cars are faster
• Keep an eye on your belongings (gold coins optional)
• Be kind to others—everyone’s a little Irish today

Celebrate smart, stay safe, and may your only mischief involve pinching someone for not wearing green. 🍀

🚨 PUBLIC SAFETY ALERT: SMOKE ALARM RECALL 🚨

Attention residents: the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a recall of more than 10,000 smoke alarms sold on Amazon because they may not alert you in time during a fire, creating a potential fire hazard.

These products are the LSHOME Photoelectric 3-Pack Smoke Detector Fire Alarms, model XG-7D04-KZ9Z with SKU CX-50YP-A5VN — identifiable on the bottom of the unit. The alarms were sold exclusively on Amazon from February 2024 through December 2025.

❗ What you should do if you have these alarms:
• Stop using them immediately — they may not sound properly in an emergency.
• You may discard the recalled units in your household trash.
• To receive a full refund through Amazon, consumers are asked to contact the company at [email protected]
for instructions.

🛑 Important: Even though no injuries have been reported so far, any smoke alarm that fails to sound properly can put lives and property at risk.

Please share this post with family, friends, and neighbors — especially those who may have purchased smoke alarms online. Everyone’s safety matters! 💛

The recalled product is the LShome 3-Pack Smoke Detector Fire Alarms.

❄️ PSA: Protecting People, Pets, Pipes, and Plants from Cold Weather - Be Prepared and Stay Safe! ❄️
As temperatures drop, it's important to take steps to protect yourself, your pets, your pipes, and your plants from the cold. Here are some tips to help you stay safe and comfortable:
• Dress Warmly: Wear layers of clothing, including a hat, scarf, gloves, and insulated, waterproof boots, to protect yourself from the cold.
• Keep Pets Indoors: Bring pets inside during cold weather or provide them with a warm shelter and bedding if they must stay outside.
• Prevent Frozen Pipes: Insulate pipes in unheated areas, such as crawl spaces and attics, and let faucets drip during extremely cold weather to prevent freezing.
• Protect Outdoor Plants: Cover outdoor plants with blankets or burlap to protect them from frost and freezing temperatures.
• Use Caution with Space Heaters: If using space heaters, keep them at least three feet away from anything that can burn, and turn them off when you leave the room or go to bed.
• Check on Vulnerable Individuals: Check on elderly neighbors and family members to ensure they are safe and warm.
• Stay Informed: Monitor weather forecasts and be prepared for extreme cold weather by having emergency supplies on hand.
By taking these precautions, you can protect yourself, your pets, your pipes, and your plants from the cold weather. Stay safe and warm!

🔥 Shovel Around Hydrants - Help Firefighters Respond Quickly! 🔥
As snow falls, it's crucial to keep fire hydrants clear and accessible. Here's how you can help:
• Shovel a Path: Clear a three-foot path around the hydrant, ensuring it's visible and easily accessible.
• Clear the Area: Remove snow and ice from the hydrant itself, including the area around the nozzle and any connections.
• Mark the Hydrant: If the hydrant is buried in snow, use a tall object, like a pole or a brightly colored flag, to mark its location.
• Maintain Access: Keep the area around the hydrant clear throughout the winter, especially after snowstorms.
By shoveling around fire hydrants, you can help firefighters respond quickly in case of an emergency. Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to safety!

🐾 Keep Your Pets Safe on New Year's Eve! 🐾
New Year's Eve celebrations can be stressful for pets due to loud noises and fireworks. Follow these tips to keep your furry friends safe:
• Create a Safe Space: Set up a quiet, comfortable area where your pet can retreat to, such as a room with their bed, toys, and water.
• Keep Them Inside: Keep your pets indoors during fireworks displays and loud celebrations to prevent them from running away in fear.
• Provide Distractions: Leave the TV or radio on at a normal volume to help drown out loud noises. Provide toys or treats to keep them occupied.
• Ensure Identification: Make sure your pet has proper identification, such as a collar with tags and a microchip, in case they do escape.
• Stay Calm: Pets can pick up on your emotions, so try to stay calm and relaxed to help them feel more secure.
• Consult Your Vet: If your pet is especially anxious, talk to your veterinarian about possible solutions, such as medication or calming supplements.
By following these tips, you can help keep your pets safe and comfortable during New Year's Eve celebrations.

❄️ PSA: Shoveling Snow Safely - Protect Your Health and Prevent Injuries! ❄️
Shoveling snow can be a strenuous activity that can lead to injuries if not done properly. Here are some tips to help you shovel snow safely:
• Warm Up: Before shoveling, warm up your muscles with light exercises to reduce the risk of injury.
• Use the Right Shovel: Use a shovel with a curved handle to reduce bending and strain on your back.
• Lift with Your Legs: Bend your knees and lift with your legs, not your back, to avoid back injuries.
• Push, Don't Lift: Whenever possible, push the snow instead of lifting it to reduce strain on your back.
• Take Breaks: Take frequent breaks to rest and prevent overexertion. Listen to your body and stop if you feel any pain or discomfort.
• Dress Warmly: Wear layers of clothing, a hat, gloves, and waterproof boots to stay warm and dry.
• Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water before, during, and after shoveling to stay hydrated.
• Shovel Early and Often: Shovel snow early and often to prevent it from building up and becoming heavier to lift.
• Know When to Stop: If you experience chest pain, shortness of breath, or any other signs of heart attack or injury, stop shoveling immediately and seek medical attention.
By following these tips, you can shovel snow safely and reduce the risk of injury. Stay safe and warm this winter!
