June is National Homeownership Month! 🏡

This month, HRHC proudly spotlights our anchoring agency, the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission(HRPDC)—a regional leader working to expand access to equitable homeownership opportunities across Hampton Roads.

Through the HOME (COME HOME) Housing Program, HRPDC partners with local cities and counties to provide down payment and closing cost assistance to first-time homebuyers—helping turn the dream of homeownership into a reality.

💡 Why this work matters:
For many families, the biggest barrier to buying a home isn’t the monthly mortgage—it’s the upfront costs.

• It can take years to save for a down payment
• Closing costs can add thousands more at purchase
• Many qualified buyers are locked out simply due to lack of upfront funds and in most cases, grant assistance through the program is up to $25,000.

HRPDC is helping families overcome financial barriers, build equity, and create long-term stability. Beyond individual impact, this work strengthens the entire region—supporting economic growth, increasing homeownership rates, and investing in communities that have historically been underserved.

June is National Homeownership Month! 🏡
HRHC understands that the journey doesn’t end at the closing table—it’s just the beginning.

That’s why we’re proud to spotlight our HRHC Member, The Up Center , and their Post-Purchase Counseling & Homeowner Education classes. Because successful homeownership takes more than buying a home—it takes the knowledge and tools to keep it.

These classes help new homeowners:
🔑 Maintain and protect their investment
🔧 Understand home maintenance and repairs
🛡️ Prepare for emergencies with disaster planning
🤝 Stay connected and engaged in their community

Continued education empowers homeowners to avoid costly mistakes, build long-term stability, and thrive in their neighborhoods.
By investing in post-purchase support, we are strengthening families, protecting homes, and building more resilient communities across Hampton Roads.

📣 Because homeownership is not just about getting the keys—it’s about keeping the legacy.
