Today marks the 82nd anniversary of D-Day. As for Honor Flight Bluegrass, we remember this day and all the WWII Veterans throughout the years we have had the opportunity to serve and honor. Sadly, there are so few now, but we should never forget their service and sacrifice that saved not only our country, but so many others.
They will always be the Greatest Generation!

Thank you to WWII Marine Veteran Dale Faughn who left us with great memories and his D-Day poem. You are missed!

The U.S. House of Representatives has voted to posthumously award the Congressional Gold Medal to the 13 American service members killed in a bomb attack in Kabul this summer.
The August attack was one of the deadliest days for American forces in the past decade of the 20-year war in Afghanistan β€” and took place just days ahead of the U.S.'s planned full withdrawal from the country that had been overtaken days earlier by the Taliban.
The bill to honor the fallen service members was introduced by Michigan Republican Rep. Lisa McClain and was co-sponsored by a bipartisan group of more than 300 representatives.

President Biden has called the Americans who lost their lives in the bombing "heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of our highest American ideals and while saving the lives of others."
"Their bravery and selflessness has enabled more than 117,000 people at risk to reach safety thus far," Biden said in a statement shortly after the attack. "May God protect our troops and all those standing watch in these dangerous days."
The group of deceased service members includes 11 Marines, one Army soldier and one member of the Navy.
Here is some of what NPR knows about those killed, as reported by our staff, as well as other media outlets.

Over the past several weeks, we’ve received hundreds of thoughtful questions, comments, and messages about military family service stars, the Green Star Service Banner, and what the different symbols mean.

We realized there was a need for something simple, respectful, educational, and easy to share, something that could help answer many of the questions families and supporters have been asking.

So we took the time to carefully research, verify, and create this overview explaining the history, meaning, and differences between several military family recognition symbols and observances, while also helping clarify where Green Star fits within that tradition.

The Green Star Service Banner was created to bring visibility, recognition, and support to families left behind after a veteran dies by su***de, families who often carry profound grief quietly and invisibly.
Green Star recognition is currently proposed through H.R. 6022 and we need your support to help bring awareness and recognition to these families.

Please help us continue this mission by:

πŸ’š Supporting H.R. 6022
πŸ’š And if your family has a story, we invite you to share it with us

No family should feel invisible after losing a veteran they love.
