Bringing back a fun little story sparked by a public inquiry in 1951 about Paris, MD (now a part of Owings, MD). This little MD town of about 60 residents was thrown into a quandary when Paris, France reached out to the town's mayor with an invitation to celebrate the original naming of Paris, France. ... The quandary? ... there was no mayor to send!!
**Paris MD was scrambling to find a way to participate, but I have not been able to find out if they ever did!

Happy Labor Day! Crowds have headed to the beach to celebrate for decades!

The background reaches back to somewhere around 1882 when the idea was established to celebrate the laborers. It was celebrated by individual states for many years... and in 1894, it was officially established by President Grover Cleveland in 1894 to recognize the contributions of American workers.

We’re so proud to be able to say that Mike Sweeney is our Friends of the Chesapeake Beach Railway Museum President and Leader! He’s such a wonderful Friend to our community.

📚 A little TLC goes a long way!

The little library at the Community Resource Building needed some TLC, and Commission for Veterans and Military Families member Mike Sweeney stepped up to help!

Mike took the time to repair the library and get it back in working order so community members can continue to stop by, take a book or share one of their own.

Thank you, Mike, for lending a hand and helping keep this small but meaningful community resource available for everyone!

Talking BIG in 1901! The Beach Baseball team was certain they would beat the team champions from DC ... but alas, the Maroons, the DC team, beat out the "Beach boys" and further claimed they would win as often as they met!
[It's fun to note that an early baseball field in the beach was approximately where Kellams Field is today ... AND where the swamp was an issue!]
