Did you know that almost every school district in the state has more students identified as students with disabilities than the state cap allows? That means counties have to fill in the funding gaps! Wonder what's happening to your local taxes? Ask your state lawmakers!!! Tell them to raise the cap and actually fund what our students need!

How much of your local property tax revenue should be invested in public education?

Across comparable North Carolina counties, the answer is often around 40–50%.

In Gaston County, it's 25.6%.

While similar counties allocate between 38% and 49% of their local property tax revenue to education operating expenses, Gaston County allocates just 25.6%—the lowest percentage among the counties shown.

If we want different outcomes, we have to be willing to have conversations about different priorities.

Join us on June 23 as community members gather to advocate for stronger investment in Gaston County Schools.
