Alfalfa County Sheriff Office is hiring FULL TIME and PART TIME jailers. Apply at 300 S Grand Cherokee, OK.

What a Jailer Does
• Security and Supervision: Ensures the safety and security of both inmates and other staff in a jail.
• Inmate Management: Conducts headcounts to account for all inmates, enforces rules, and may need to restrain inmates.
• Emergency Response: Responds to emergencies and may provide first aid or life-saving aid.
• Contraband Detection: Performs searches of inmates and cells for weapons and drugs.
• Facility Operations: May be involved in booking inmates, monitoring feeding, and supervising visitations.
REQUIREMENTS
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Physical & Mental Fitness: Must be in good physical condition and mentally prepared for the role.
• Certifications: Some positions require specific jailer certification programs, or training in First Aid/CPR.
• Other Skills: Good judgment, the ability to follow instructions, and a valid driver's license or ID card with a good record are required.
• Part time $16.00 an hour / Ability to work various shifts including holidays and weekends. Full Time $3060.00 per month plus benefits.

Keep Your Fingers and Your Friends!!!
This is the weekend where someone in the U.S. will not end up with all 10 fingers! 🖐️🧨
Let’s not make that person your cousin Greg.

We love a good backyard pyrotechnic show as much as the next person, but let’s be real—your DIY neighborhood display is essentially just "manual fireworks" without a launch team. As you celebrate, follow these rules so you don't become the human equivalent of a firework fail video:

Keep your distance: Set a safety perimeter of at least ≥ 35 feet. If aerial explosives go off too soon, you want to be as far from that chaotic energy as humanly possible.
One at a time: Do not light the whole box up at once like a scene straight out of an action movie.
No "Dud" relights: If a firework is too shy to explode, leave it alone! Treat it with water and throw it away.
Water is your best friend: Keep a bucket of water nearby, and douse the spent fireworks in it before tossing them in the trash.

Remember, firework safety isn't rocket science, but it is science. Alcohol and fireworks don't mix, so put the drinks down if you're lighting the fuse.

We at the Alfalfa County Sheriff’s Office would like to congratulate our Administrative executive Lydia Wilson on her completion of the Oklahoma Victim Assistance Academy this past week.
The Oklahoma Victim Assistance Academy (OVAA) is a week-long intensive course of study for crime victim service providers designed to improve the quality and consistency of victim services in Oklahoma. Lydia spent the week of June 21st at the University of Central Oklahoma developing her capacity to serve any and all victims of any crime.”

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (NPSTW) is celebrated annually during the second full week of April (April 12-18, 2026) to honor the "heroes behind the headset" who answer 911 calls, dispatch emergency personnel, and provide critical support. Initiated in 1981, this week recognizes the dedication of telecommunications personnel who serve 24/7.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Trooper Brake's family, and all those impacted by today's tragic events.

It is with deep sorrow the Oklahoma Highway Patrol announces the line of duty death of Trooper Vernon Brake.

On April 8, 2026, at 11:27 a.m., a vehicle traveling southbound on I-35 lost control for an unknown reason and crossed the center cable barrier. The vehicle struck Trooper Brake, who was traveling in the northbound lanes just south of Hefner Road in Oklahoma City.

Trooper Brake was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the other involved vehicle, along with a four-year-old passenger, were also pronounced deceased at the scene.

Trooper Brake was a graduate of the 56th OHP Academy in 2006 and has proudly served the Oklahoma Highway Patrol for nearly 20 years, with a significant amount of time assigned to Troop S (commercial motor vehicle enforcement). After his graduation from the academy, he also served in Oklahoma and Logan Counties.

Trooper Brake is survived by his wife and two children.

Our prayers and deepest sympathies are with his family as well as the family of the other driver involved.

OHP's Traffic Homicide Unit (THU) is conducting the investigation into the crash.
